Beard was scrappy , hard worker. Not a bad athlete but not your typical Miami wr back then.

Coaches are biased. Mark and Beard saw themselves in the safety. That’s why Mark was in his feels. Just like a great athlete as coach would be biased to a fast / explosive guy lacking a high football iq.
