How Do We Fix The O-Line?

We have to see who ends up signing here. Long way until Signing Day.

How Do We Fix The O-Line?

To me, the key is going to be protecting South Florida. With the weight restrictions being lifted in youth football, we are entering a golden age of South Florida OL. It's the deepest position in the region this year. Right now, none are committed to Miami. It would be a brutal blow to lose a...

How Do We Fix The O-Line?

We've only had one good OL coach in that time period, and the poor OC quality brought everybody down. When Stoutland was here, he signed monsters. Linder, Seantrel, Feliciano, Franklin, Washington and Gunn all made the league, and Horn and McDermott were All-ACC centers. Unfortunately, he didn't...

How Do We Fix The O-Line?

Again, this is the inconsistency I’m talking about. If star ratings are the best approximation of talent, as you suggest, Miami has maintained a very talented OL. The line we started in the Pinstripe Bowl had a higher average rating than the line Clemson started in the title game. John...

How Do We Fix The O-Line?

You must be confusing yourself because you are the one bringing up Zion’s star rating. We have guys very early in their development. They may never develop. They may end up in the NFL like so many of our OL who were branded on here as talentless scrubs after tough losses. Anybody making...

How Do We Fix The O-Line?

This is the inconsistency I keep seeing. If the measure of talent is recruiting interest from other programs, we should be in better shape than most. We have four 4*s and a borderline 4* in our top 8. These guys had legit SEC and Big 10 offers. Last night was a perfect example. Our OL had a...

How Do We Fix The O-Line?

They ran for 1.9 yards per carry and nearly gave us the game when they tried to throw. Their OL didn’t do anything. My only beef is that we were so concerned with their running game that we overplayed Patchan at the expense of our better rushers.

How Do We Fix The O-Line?

And most other teams, including the team that blew Alabama out in the championship, need time to develop their young OL.

How Do We Fix The O-Line?

As I said before the season, we are feeling the effects of a goose egg in the 2016 transition OL class. Having UF in the first game and going against two fourth-year DEs exposed that gap. By any objective measure (NFL, star ratings), we will have more OL talent than any team on our schedule...

How Do We Fix The O-Line?

Actually, when l talk about talent I point to the NFL. You know, successful evaluations. You didn’t like those facts, so you went with stars until they started conflicting with your narrative. Youth is not a “convenient excuse.” It’s a reality that we’ve been talking about all offseason...

How Do We Fix The O-Line?

Interesting that you go back to the star system. We have more 4 star OL than the rest of the Coastal combined, and started a higher rated OL than UF. Our OL was actually rated higher out of high school than UF’s DL. We have one junior and no seniors in our top 10 OL. That is unheard of and...

How Do We Fix The O-Line?

Only one of our Top 10 OL is an upperclassman. No seniors. This line will basically be together for at three years.

How Do We Fix The O-Line?

Scaife at T is an option to seriously consider during the bye week. People don’t want to hear this, but a huge part of the problem is just youth. Out of the 10 OL in the the two-deep, there is only one junior and no seniors. That is an insanely young group.
