ProCanes NFL Recap: Week 7

Paul Austria
Oh boy. If you’re a tight end in high school and you’re considering attending the University of Miami, you’re going to love this week’s segment of NFL ProCanes. Four, yes FOUR, former UM tight ends scored touchdowns this week. Before I spoil too much, let’s get right into it.

RB

The Dolphins’ running game struggled to get anything going against the Lions on Sunday, with Frank Gore only going for 29 yards on 10 carries with a four-yard reception. Houston’s Lamar Miller had a solid day, running for 100 yards on the dot off 22 carries and one touchdown. In a blowout loss to Kansas City, Bengals’ RB Mark Walton finished with four carries for 10 yards. The Browns’ Duke Johnson had one lone carry that went for negative yardage, but made up for it on the receiving end with four catches for 23 yards.

WR

Former first-round pick Phillip Dorsett caught his lone target against the Bears for eight yards. Serving as part of the plan to replace Dez Bryant, Cowboys’ WR Allen Hurns had four receptions for 52 yards in a loss to the Redskins. The Chargers’ Travis Benjamin returned from injury and caught one pass for 13 yards.

TE

In a comeback win that saw the Panthers overcome a 17-point deficit against Philly, TE Greg Olsen had two catches for five yards, with one of those catches being a crucial touchdown. The Colts’ Erik Swoope continued his hot TD streak, catching a 17-yarder in a rout over the Bills. Chris Herndon was targeted seven times against the Vikings, a season-high for the rookie, and he hauled in four of those passes for 42 yards and a touchdown in a loss to the Vikings. And in yet another game for the Browns that finished in overtime, TE David Njoku continued a nice streak of 50+ yards for the 4th straight game, finishing with 52 and a touchdown off four catches.

DL

In another tough loss for the struggling Jaguars, Calais Campbell had a monster day with nine tackles. The Colts’ Al-Quadin Muhammad had one tackle in a win over Buffalo. Allen Bailey had a couple of tackles in a dominating win for the Chiefs over the Bengals.

LB

As usual, Denzel Perryman has been one of the biggest anchors of that Chargers’ defense, leading the way with eight tackles against the Titans.

DB
Rams CB Sam Shields recorded a couple of tackles in a 39-10 win over the 49ers that also saw San Francisco S Adrian Colbert record one tackle. Colbert sustained season-ending ankle injury in the game and was placed on IR.

K/P

In only two weeks for the Chargers, newly-signed kicker Michael Badgley has already been a phenomenal pickup. Badgley went 2-for-2 on both field goals and extra points and every point was crucial in a one-point win over the Titans. Bears punter Pat O’Donnell had four punts against the Patriots for a total of 173 yards, landing one punt inside the 20. Matt Bosher punted three times for the Falcons against the New York Giants, landing two of those punts inside the 20.
