Welcome to 2018 where the 3 best QB’s in the state play for UCF, FIU, and USF.
1. Central Florida Knights (8-0, 5-0 AAC) (Last Week: 1)
Last Week: vs Temple Owls (5-4) W 52-40
Next opponent: Navy Midshipmen (2-7)
Temple was able to make UCF sweat a little bit on Thursday night and was up by 6 at the half, but a scoreless 3rd quarter cost the Owls the upset. To say the defenses played terrible would be an understatement. In total, this game had 1,300 yards of offense. Not too shabby. Nonetheless, UCF has now won 21 games in a row.
2. Florida Gators (6-3, 4-2 SEC) (Last Week: 2)
Last Week: vs Missouri Tigers (4-4) L 38-17
Next opponent: vs South Carolina Gamecocks (5-3)
The Gators got out played in every meaningful category in this game. Missouri had more time of possession, more yards, and more total plays. Feleipe Franks continued to struggle, which caused Dan Mullen to bring in Kyle Trask. In addition, there are now former Gator players and former teammates of Franks calling for him to be benched. Welcome to yet another QB controversy in the State of Florida.
3. South Florida Bulls (7-2, 3-2 AAC) (Last Week: 3)
Last week: vs Tulane Green Wave (4-5) L 41-15
Next opponent: at Cincinnati Bearcats (8-1)
Two weeks ago, USF lost to Houston and went up in this rankings. Last week, USF got routed by Tulane, but they will remain at number 3. What a time for Florida football. USF was able to move the ball against Tulane and they actually outgained Tulane 432-426, but they could not get any points on the board. This defense for the Bulls is becoming a serious liability as they gave up 365 yards on the ground against the Green Wave.
4. Miami Hurricanes (5-4, 2-3 ACC) (Last Week: 4)
Last week: vs Duke Blue Devils (6-3) L 20-12
Next opponent: at Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (5-4)
Miami games have become painful to watch. Malik Rosier has not gotten any better and brings you none of the qualities you would want from a 5th year senior and N’Kosi Perry appears to have taken a step back since we last saw him. Miami ran for more yards than Duke had total and still found a way to lose. Welcome to the 2018 Hurricanes.
Next Opponent: vs Western Kentucky Hilltoppers (1-8)
FAU just had to go ahead and beat FIU to make my job harder. Thanks for everything, Lane. FAU won this game because they were able to run the ball, plain and simple. The Owls ran for 439 yards and had a staggering 31 first downs because of it. You could claim that some of those points came in garbage time, but what you can not argue is that this was FAU’s best game of the year.
6. Florida International Panthers (6-3, 3-1 CUSA) (Last Week: 5)
Last Week: vs Florida Atlantic Owls (3-5) L 49-14
Next Opponent: at UTSA Roadrunners (3-6)
Just when you though FIU may have turned a corner, they get smacked by FAU 49-14. We actually had a close game with the Owls leading 21-14 after 3 quarters, but then FIU collapsed. FIU has some serious questions that need to be answered on defense as they gave up a grand total of 439 yards on the ground.
7. Florida State Seminoles (4-5, 2-5 ACC) (Last Week: 6)
Last Week: at NC State Wolf Pack (5-2) L 47-28
Next Opponent: at Notre Dame Fighting Irish (9-0)
Florida State is in the middle of the toughest part of their schedule and things are going about as well as you would expect. Florida State does have a hard road, but they aren’t making things any easier on themselves. The Noles made themselves one dimensional by only running the ball 12 times vs NC State while letting James Blackman 46 times. Oh and did you catch that? I said James Blackman. Welcome to the 3rd QB controversy in the State of Florida.
