Young 2021 OT grabbing plenty of attention early, has Miami offer

Young 2021 OT grabbing plenty of attention early, has Miami offer

2021 Nova University School OT Marcus Tate took on a stacked field of older and more seasoned competition out at the Opening Miami Regional 2 weekends ago. And Tate didn’t look out of place, registering as one of the top OL’s in attendance and showing off great footwork and an advanced build for a freshman in high school.

“I think I did alright, a lot of coaches said I did really well, and obviously I’m still a freshman,” Tate said.

There was a lot of fast and furious competition in the linemen drills at the event, featuring plenty of skirmishes and after-the-play extracurricular activity. Tate held up strong though, and, when asked who was the toughest defender to go against, pointed to a standout rusher that happened to throw up “the U” at the event.

“Definitely Khris Bogle. Yeah, he’s real fast, strong, good competitor,” Tate said. “I’d love to go compete against him in college.”

His freshman season at Nova U. School put Tate on the map as a prospect to take notice of, and the 6’5” 293 pound lineman anticipates taking on the role of covering his QB’s blindside next season.

“Pretty good, I started every game for my school,” Tate said. “I played at right tackle, I’m moving to left tackle next year.”

While it’s still extremely early in the process for the freshman lineman, Tate already sports an impressive offer list for someone so young, indicative of a true blue-chip recruit.

“Miami, Tennessee, LSU, Texas A&M, Purdue, Louisville, and Syracuse,” Tate rattled off.

A draw to Miami is Tate’s relationship with his potential future coach, Miami OL coach Stacy Searels, as well as one of the Hurricanes’ ace recruiters.

“Coach Searels, the O-Line coach, and coach Banda. I’ve talked to them a little bit, but I think they do like me really well,” Tate said. “I love them, I love Miami.”

With 3 years until his Signing Day, Tate has plenty of time to begin figuring out his favorites. But, when talking visits, it was the hometown school that is a priority for Tate.

“First, Miami, because it’s in my local area,” Tate said. “I want to visit this weekend coming up, but I can’t promise anything. But definitely Miami first because it’s local.”

And mom’s thoughts on everything?

“I’m just very proud of him,” says Mrs. Tate. “It’s still early, but (the recruiting process) has been amazing, it’s been a great experience.”

If he is 6'5" and 293 then that is amazing for a 16 year old with a slinder build and great feet. He is a another must have! Best OL film I've seen. Can't let this kid leave SoFL.

Going to Bama......just kidding. We need to keep this boy home.

Since when HS freshman are 16? You gotta be a real dumb ass if you are 16 and a freshman in HS. I was 14 when I was a freshman.
