The Canes regained some momentum with the commitment of four-star WR Somourian Wingo.

The 6’2, 180-pound St. Augustine native chose the Canes over Florida, South Carolina and Alabama.

As a junior, Wingo caught 65 passes for 1,040 yards (16.8 YPC) and 12 TDs and led a St. Augustine team that went 11-2 and made the semifinals of Florida’s 4A playoffs.

Wingo is a multisport athlete, averaging 16.6 ppg, 5.8 rpg, 3.1 spg and 2.5 apg and a 53.19 in the 400M on the track.

Shannon Dawson and Kevin Beard have been leading the charge on the Wingo evaluation, as they value his ability to play outside and inside. He performed very well in front of the coaches at a July 2024 Miami camp, where he competed alongside Malachi Toney, Jaime Ffrench, Nick Lennear, Calvin Russell, Jayden Petit and others.

Wingo joins Vance Spafford and Tyran Evans in Miami’s WR class.

Will be unpopular here, but I don’t believe in overpaying out of desperation for a backup option.

I hope he balls out senior year and develops into a freak, but he has high bust potential from the film and comp I watch. I expect him to drop in the rankings as well. He’s high ceiling, low floor type.

At the same time, good to stop the bleeding and all hands on deck for Cooper. That’s someone that’s worth the overpay imo.

All that being said, welcome to the U young man and prove many of us wrong.

Of course it will be unpopular here. Whine about it somewhere other than the commitment page.
