Score every possession and get a couple early TO and make them play from behind

Lol with Schict calling plays we will not score 35 points.. Lol I just finished watching plays from UGA for the past two years. Schict is a stubborn dude I hope he figures out that he needs someone with some innovation.

he wasn't calling plays the last two years at UGA

I think Miami should be able to run the ball better against UNC. I'd like to see a more concerned effort to get our backs outside the tackles on sweeps, tosses and stretch plays. I think our interior linemen are better on the move and can get out in front on power and toss plays.

UNC, like FSU, has played some good teams early on (FSU, UGA, VT).

This and VT are our statement games for the season.

The spread is Canes -8, and the O/U is like 67. They are expecting a shootout, 38-30 type game.

How does UNC's front seven physically match up with Miami's OL? FSU, despite their problems on defense, matched up well. The Noles problem is their secondary. Richt's play calling did not help, of course.

What? Can't base Richt's playing calling off of the last 2 yrs at UGA, have to look at earlier years when he ran the offense. Also what's up with Schict?

FSU's LBs stink this year too. Thomas is their best, and he missed a huge part of our game. UNC has a walk-on at LB with zero depth. They're not all that good up front either, which is why they're so awful against the run.

I wondered that all game Saturday. especially on the last TD we kept trying to run up the middle when I would have loved to see Walton running for the pylon on the wide side.

You've got to run the occasional draw to keep defenses honest when you go shotgun but I agree. We don't have the offensive line to just go out there and run it up the gut. However, what guys like Linder and McDermott lack in brute strength, they make up for in mobility. I've been especially surprised by McDermott. He was sloppy and slow last year but this year, you see him getting out in front on screen passes and he wrecks shop. These guys have quick feet and if you can get them on the move they can knock opposing defenders on their asses.

Perhaps the biggest test of the year for his defense this weekend. UNC's offense can do things FSU's only wish they could to match up against what we do.

Lu, can you go into more depth? I'm assuming you're at least partially referencing the area of the field between the LBs and Safety's you've been talking about?

Yessir. They'll stretch us out with their screen game and then their QB has the accuracy to slice us up the hashes. Diaz made a tremendous analogy: their QB is a Point Guard. And, that's the type most likely to hurt us this year. Probably the biggest test of the year for our guys on defense.

Should be interesting to see if they move Jaquan into Jamal's role and how that closes up some of the gaps. But, then opens stuff up the Nickel spot (not sure who'd they go with there) can cover up. If our back 7 doesn't come out of this game with 2 INTs, we probably lost by 10 points. I can't see why UNC would leave their QB exposed to our DL. Quick hitting, well-timed bubbles and intermediate routes. The occasional deep in and stretch. Essentially, what I hoped our offense would do against FSU's defense.

You just touched on my next question. I wondered in another thread how we would replace Carter.

Skilset-wise, and forgetting the nickel spot for a moment, what do you see at the major difference between Carter and Johnson? Do we have anyone else that can fill Carters shoes so we can keep JJ at nickel? I'd imagine we'd like to see JJ matched up against Switzer.

1. Anticipation
2. Short area quickness
3. Flexibility (though Carter's gotten better here)

Jaquan is better at all these areas. He's just more valuable to us in the Nickel spot. Now, if Grace doesn't lose focus, he plays the Nickel and Jaquan plays Safety. Those are the breaks.

I doubt you'll see anyone matched up in 1 on 1 against Switzer. He moves around way too much. I actually think they'll use him in motion a ton and RUN off that to get outside. They'll take a page from that triple option pitch. I'm watching the UNC @ FSU game play for play during downtime. Trubisky gets the ball out FAST and accurately to both the sidelines and between the hashes.

Trubisky is nasty accurate. He was hitting on almost 80% of his passes before the monsoon game at VT. And they throw the ball deep too.

Before the VT monsoon game, he wasn't getting intercepted either. So, if we're hoping for interceptions, we might be in big trouble. The offense is going to need to step up for us this week.

With his savage approach to the game of football, I think this guy will be a very good HC one day. Seems like a guy who will have a very successful overall vision for a program. Might be a better HC than a DC.

Maybe even at... miami

Thanks 'Chise. The FSU DL seriously dominated Miami's OL then.

Regardless, we'll see how Richt and the team react Saturday.
