UM dismisses Sam Bruce

UM announced on Monday morning that freshman WR Sam Bruce had been dismissed from the football team. Bruce was currently missing time with a leg injury and began the season on a 3-game suspension after a picture surfaced of him online holding a gun.

Bruce came to Miami as a 4-star prospect out of St. Thomas Aquinas HS, although he finished his schooling at a charter school in Broward after an incident at STA. He was considered an electric slot receiver prospect who played with flair on the field.

Sources have told CanesInSight that Bruce was not forthcoming about the cause of a leg injury that has forced him to miss time this season. He told coaches he fell off his bike, when in fact the injury was suffered while playing pick-up basketball. That does not appear to be the ultimate reason for his dismissal, but Miami's official statement read, "Freshman wide receiver Sam Bruce has been dismissed from the Miami football based on multiple violations of team rules and a failure on his part to meet the clear expectations established to be a part of the Miami football program. We wish Sam well with his future academic and football endeavors."

At the risk of being premature, given my own mopery about the state of the program after the failed test:

I agree that the blessing in disguise analysis may be true. We "couldn't" afford to lose AQM, & Grace, yet our defense is the bright spot so far - with those who replaced them because they did step up.

One has to hope that the same applies here and that we seize an open scholly opportunity to find a true sportser for a position of need.

A criticism of Richt at Georgia was he was too quick to dismiss players. Some fans got mad at him for the talent he kicked off the team, other fans liked it because he ran a clean program.

Hard to say without knowing what Bruce did - but Richt has been known to have a short leash.

All that recruiting effort and drama for naught. I said when he signed that he's the type of guy Rick often kicks off the team. College football rosters have been littered with UGA cast offs over the years from Rick.

Was it Richt who kicked those players off the team or was it the decision of the school?

I just hope Mullins is still busting his butt in the classroom and maybe even asks Berrios for help if he needs it since Berrios is the smartest on the team. Can't have 2 WR get kicked out of the program with our lack of depth

Miami Hurricanes dismiss receiver Sam Bruce after 'multiple violations of team rules' - Sun Sentinel

Bruce was expected to redshirt this season after suffering a serious non-football injury last month. A source told the Sun Sentinel at the time the receiver broke his leg.

That injury played a role in Bruce's dismissal, with a source saying the receiver has missed scheduled treatment sessions. Bruce has also been late for study hall, compounding some of his disciplinary issues.

Was it Richt who kicked those players off the team or was it the decision of the school?

Too much drama around this kid. We don't need all this BS. Need more guys like Shaq, D Jax, Joe Jax, etc., that want to be Canes and come to kick a*s. They don't make it about them, they make it about the team. No side drama, good hard working kids that show up on the field, not off it.

I am concerned about who we beat more than who we kick off team. So far we have beat NOBODY and kicked THREE big time players off the team.

He wasn't going to play this year. Free's up a scholarship. Sets an example for other players if he wasn't going to class and treatments. If he wasn't going for treatments how serious is he about getting on the field? Why miss treatments? Foolish.

The drama queens have a high failure rate.

We don't have to have choir boys. Look at Pinckney. We need savages too.. but don't be a distraction.

Kid seemed way too self absorbed and immature. Richt let him go for a reason.

Many here do not realize that some people in this world do not want "help" and do not want to change. They want to live the way they want to live and there isn't a thing you can do to change that person.

I have to believe Sam was confronted about whatever issue was in question and simply brushed it off. At this point in his life he is not ready to change and this staff now has one less distraction.
