A trio of former Miami Hurricanes are headed to football’s biggest stage.
Former Hurricanes defensive tackle Leonard Taylor, kicker Andres Borregales, and tight end Elijah Arroyo are all Super Bowl bound, with Super Bowl LX set to kick off this weekend.
Taylor and Borregales will represent the ‘U’ with the New England Patriots, while Arroyo is headed to Super Bowl with the Seattle Seahawks. No matter who wins, at least one former Hurricane is guaranteed to walk away with a ring.
The former Miami defensive tackle Leonard Taylor has appeared in 19 NFL games between the New York Jets and New England Patriots. Over that span, Taylor has totaled 35 tackles, including 15 solo stops, along with 1.5 sacks and two pass deflections. Probably his biggest play of his career where he had a season-defining blocked field goal in the AFC Championship Game that helped New England clinch its Super Bowl spot.
At Miami, Taylor played three seasons and finished his Hurricanes career with 54 total tackles, 6 sacks, and 1 interception.
Andres Borregales arrives at the Super Bowl doing exactly what he’s always done, just putting points on the board. In his NFL career so far, Borregales has played in 17 games, converting 27 of 32 field goal attempts for an 84.4 percentsuccess rate. He’s been nearly automatic on extra points, going 53-for-55, and drilled a long field goal of 59 yards during the regular season.
During his Hurricanes career, he made 74 of 86 field goals and 183 of 184 extra points, scoring 405 total points.
Elijah Arroyo rounds out the Hurricanes trio on the offensive side of the ball. The tight end has appeared in NFL action with the Seattle Seahawks, recording 15 receptions for 179 yards and one touchdown during his rookie season.
At Miami, Arroyo finished his college career with 46 receptions for 753 yards and eight touchdowns. Injuries slowed portions of his Hurricanes tenure, but when healthy, he was a consistent red-zone target and mismatch against linebackers and safeties.
The Seahawks opened as a 4.5-point favorite over the Patriots on FanDuel Sportsbook with a total of 45.5 in Super Bowl LX.
