Still don't know why people want to fire Golden when he's recruiting like a monster and building for the long haul.

first of all I don't want golden fired.

that said, Coaches should strive to win games and titles, not recruiting battles.

obviously recruiting better leads to better team. but at this point, Golden has had done well enough in recruiting to not get embarrassed by an unranked team on Homecoming.

Coaches should definitely strive to win recruiting battles. lol wut>

Any news on Jojo?

If he came here would he play in the secondary or WR?

Amazing that your level of arrogance still permeates throughout the fan base

Ok so if we didn't win recruiting battles then that means Stacy Coley wouldn't be on this team along with Tracy Howard and others.

And we're recruiting the depth and talent we need to absolutely destroy teams like VT.

Swagger: thoughts on trey carter?

Personally, I've been dying for UM to get back to recruiting the Dallas area. Probably the area of this country most like miami in the sense that there are some serious mean streets in Dallas, big time HS football at great schools (carter, Roosevelt, etc). We used to poach kids from the Dallas area all the time (Texas in general) and we've stopped the past 10 years.

Don't know much about pinkston - hoping swagger can shed some light.

Pinkston is harrrrrrrrrrrrrrible. It's in the same district as Dallas Carter, but Dallas ISD has fallen on serious hard times over here..... all of the football powers are suburbs, the inner city schools either can't keep kids eligible, their kids play basketball (or drop out), or - rarely - they just transfer to a suburb football school. Even Carter is a shell of it's former self at best - they get smoked when they play the "powerhouse" teams these days. And.... Pinkston is one of the very worst DISD schools. This kid's stock has gone through the roof in the last month, and someone told me when i asked about this kid that they think it will come down between Texas & OU for him - he's gotten that hot.

One of the "suburb" schools I'm talking about is Desoto. They have speed on speed on speed (they sent Dontre Wilson to Ohio State last year, and in 2010 they beat Miramar over here). They call themselves "Desoto U" and use the U hand sign. When I go to their games, I always see lots of Miami gear - probably more UM gear than UT or Texas A&M. For whatever reason, maybe it was Armstead (who is an eternal legend for his HS days over here) & Kevin Williams, these south Dallas schools really latched onto Miami in the 90s and it remains. I don't know why we don't hit the area harder, our brand's probably as strong in this little pocket of south Dallas as it is anywhere else in the country outside of south Florida.

Houston has a VERY strong Miami following as well. The city is a real hotbed of cultures from everywhere, so there's a ton of Miami fans.
It's not as pro UT/OU/A&M/LSU as some people think. Yes, those schools get ballers out of there, but trust me, The U is strong in that area!

Thanks for the info, man. I suspected that what happened to schools like Dillard and carol city over here (via re-districting) was happening in Dallas. Rather than re-districting, seems more like an issue of suburb recruiting. Anyhow, point remains...besides miami, south Dallas is one of the biggest/baddest hotbeds of talent that we don't seem to poach from. Long gone are the days of mean mofos like Jessie, Al cotton, Ricky Caesar, et al. Now we only seem to recruit polite suburb school kacy Rogers types.

Frustrating we don't hit those areas more.

God stuff swag. If it hasn't already been done, can the guys with connections please forward this info on to our staff.

now that is a quality post. Can't get that type of info anywhere else.

Unless the team wins every game 70-0, the idiot masses will call for heads to roll. Things are different in the real world than video game land.

I don't know if we really got all that many from Dallas: Jesse Armstead, Kevin Williams, that big DT who beat up his girlfriend and left the program. He came from Carter but was really an Arkansas kid. I always thought Houston was supposed to be the real hotbed among cities in Texas.

Carter had that great team that one year, maybe it was 1989. I think they beat Odessa Permian for the state championship. Heck, we didn't even get Kevin Abraham the next year.

You might know more about Texas than I do, especially the geography. I thought we got a mediocre OL from one of the suburbs one year, too. A shotputter.

We really seem to have stopped recruiting Texas almost entirely. It really started big time with the arrival of JJ and his staff. JJ knew Texas, he was a native. I heard back then they loved the Texas kids because they were well-schooled by the time they arrived at the U. I'll never forget the opening play of the Texas All-Star game in 1989, I think. Jesse Armstead tackled Marty Patton. Probably the best RB and the best LB in the state, both headed for the U.

I have a feeling we don't really have a natural Texas recruiter on the staff, like the days of JJ and Butch, or like we had with Louisiana, with Curtis Johnson. A friend with close connections told me our Louisiana recruiting dropped through the floor when CJ left. Al and his staff are going to have to learn Texas. They know the northeast, but they don't have natural ties to Texas and the connections. It would probably pay off Even in our best days, I heard the staff felt if they could get 1 or 2 quality players a year from Texas they were doing well.

Neither made it. Cotton went on to have a decent career at Miss St. I just googled him and found out he passed away a couple years ago. :(

Caesar was more of a mess. Bounced around JCs last time I looked him up. He was the stud of that class.

Probably after Jessie and KW, Caesar was the highest rated kid we ever signed out of TX.

Coaches should strive to win games and titles, not recruiting battles. Golden has had done well enough in recruiting to not get embarrassed by an unranked team on Homecoming.

FSU lost to NC State last year despite having a roster full of 4 & 5 stars (and like 10 guys drafted).. a roster that actually had DEPTH & playmakers at all positions. It happens.. Did Jimbo just learn this year how to coach?

I haven't been on this board much lately so I'm behind but anyone who wants Golden fired is a ******* idiot.
