like I said earlier. This recruiting cycle will end the same way the season did.

Like can anybody on here who is like filthy rich just, without telling the staff, pay some of these dudes already. I mean **** everyone else does it and I'm tired of every single year kids who love UM turning us down.

Oh wait I forgot, Wake Forest doesn't do that kind of stuff, and thats the joke program we have turned into.

Thats a real good excuse for Powell flipping, I guess :nelsonhaha:...I wish him the best in that offense

lets blame the staff for sony. meanwhile, we were 6-0 going into Wake game and he shows up to a stadium 75% empty.

Dastardly fans screwed UM again. We must have got a different group of fans after Butch Davis left because they didn't seem to affect him.

LMAO, right... because Butch never had kids decommit or bail out on us.

Well, if they did, I am sure it was because of money. Right?

Not always. I never said every kid gets paid, or the only reason some kids dont come here is because of money. But money has always been an issue, and its been getting much worse over the years in So Fla.

Butch's classes on paper were not all that. Butch made great evaluations and found kids who were getting ready to explode at the next level. Wasnt like he was loading up on 4 and 5 star guys every year.

Yeah, one of the most overplayed lines is that the Butch classes were not that highly rated.......
Those classes while highlighted by a bunch of great finds were also filled with a bunch of Parade All Americans that were studs such as Dre, Big Vince and Willis to name a few but also filled with misses in Geathers, Sands, and Beard. The whole idea that our classes were low rated is a myth, we just never had the #1 class.

On another note, what’s the deal with the staff offering Treon Harris now? Is it just a reaction to FSU taking so many SFLA boys? I don’t get it. Anybody know anything? Any guesses?

My optimistic take: they are starting to learn from their mistakes.

its hard for me to get past golden its like he is one direction minded and can't like think outside of his own box..
for a guy that is so key on having a plan...how is he a coach that works in the hot bed of recruiting and still can't
figure out to have back ups for the kids that don't commit. I am sorry the lack of talent there of on the roster is
his fault all these kids are his guys going in to next year...he can't think to have more kid with scholly offers
or that he is recruiting...I don't get it...so down the stretch we have to watch the scramble its tiring...

there are kids in 2015 that still don't have offers that are top athletes in the state?

Whats the hold up?

It does seem like AG is being kind of stubborn with who he wants to offer, etc. I mean, I like that he's being honest with guys, i.e. when he tells you know who that he cannot or will not play corner here, but could be in play as a safety. At the very least, AG isn't lying to the guy. However, does he really need to be that inflexible that he can't and won't even entertain the idea of the guy playing corner? Why not give the guy a shot? It's not like we're at a position to be really choosy, right? I suppose offering Treon Harris now is AG being more flexible? Way to figure it out now. I don't know.

As for 2015 recruits, I know Cronkite still doesn't have an offer. WTH?

1) how does Powell flip to the gators during Dead period and with never being offered by them before the day he's suppose to enroll at Miami? Somethings up there regardless of what anyone says.

2) I don't have a lot of faith in any of the BTW kids until one actually signs. I believe eduardo clements was the last BTW kid to play here if i'm not mistaken. the shannon firing has a lot to do with that.

3) why oh why do we keep recruiting and offering kids who can't get in every year? i mean i know it's inevitable sometimes but **** we have offered way too many kids who don't qualify. that falls on the staff for not doing enough research on their recruits, which would be effort better used on kids that actually qualify. i feel i just never hear about this many kids not qualifying at other programs year in and year out. these coaches definitely need to do their research on the current culture of recruiting. no excuse for not offering treon harris a offer as a qb even with no intentions on using him as a qb. same can be said with quincy wilson as a cb. coaches at fsu, bama, & uf get it, but for some reason our staff doesn't.

there i'm done venting. despite my previous comments i'm actually excited to see how this recruiting class ends and looking forward to progress next season

We've always had more problems that other schools because we recruit primarily in Dade and south Florida and there have always been an inordinate number of kids with academic issues, at least that seems to be the problem. When discussing this with other UM fans in the '80's, they would blame it on the schools, the parents, whatever. I think south Florida has an unusually large number of poorly prepared athletes coming out of the public schools. If I am wrong, say so, but I believe it is probably true. Some kids, like Devin Hester, seem to be persistent in trying to overcome whatever academic problems they might have, others don't care and go anywhere they can to play football. Some leave for the pros and never get a degree at UM. I'm not sure Ray Lewis has a UM degree--unless it's the Univ. of Maryland degree he got later on. At least he finished up.

We're recruiting in one of the weakest pools academically, if one of the strongest talent-wise.

Yeah, that seems to be a problem that doesn't get talked about as much as it should. That's part of the reason as to why Alabama, LSU, Auburn, Georgia, etc have been able to invade SFLA and take so many of the guys we go after.

Guys, this is what I wrote about Lenius on my thread( regarding my second time seeing Kaaya live vs Serra in the CIF Playoffs):

http://www.canesinsight.com/threads/60086-Ok-just-got-back-from-the-Chaminade-Serra-game(Brad-Kayaa)

-- One last note, that big WR, Breydon Lineas( someone may want to check my spelling) #81 was the toughest match-up on the field. He drew at least 4 pass interferences and I think this young man has a huge upside. He's already 6'4, about 220 and while a senior, he's just 16 years old. I can absolutely imagine in a few years being 6'6 and bulking up to 245 and again, in a different system where he's moved around, will be an absolute mis-match machine out wide and in the slot. He dropped one ball but overall, he was a problem that Serra never quite figured out. He was an X-factor.

Very nice kid, too."

Pete whats going on with our remaining lb targets with bryant and minor which I feel are important gets

I don't waste my time with Golden4Life. The dude can't see the forest through the coaches' cox. Butch Davis assembled the greatest collection of talent in the history of college football at UM. Yet, this guy is going to make a smart guy post talking about him having guys de-commit like that means anything given the guy's overall results as a recruiter here.

Did butch follow two incompetent coaches that almost killed the program? We had our punters playing 2 string DT under those two. Also the mental aspect of the program was different we were not one and down university. It was about the school not the league as the last two helped create.

Has golden been perfect, nope, but I feel better today about the program then i have in a long time.

I am not sure how to own S. Florida again but I would identify those "leader" kids for 2015 and offer them now and make them the priority. We might need to make some sacrifices, offer guys at the positions they want to play, even if we do not agree. Win these top 3 or 4 influential players every year and the rest hopefully follow. If we do not start winning in our backyard we are going to stay behind FSU.

At this point I don't care what it takes, hire a top HS coach or what but we need the South Florida talent pool. There is always the Jimmy's and Joes vs X's and O's debate but right now we are falling short on both. Give me talent and find coaches allow them to be successful on the field. Wish it were that simple. :fistbump:

Lets see, been recruiting him since the 8th grade. Recruited him hard as ****. Kid claims he is a lifelong Canes fan. Loves us. Had been to campus tons of times on unofficial visits. Commits to UGA (SEC) out of the blue, and REFUSES to even meet with our coaches, take their calls, or even come on an OV. And now is reportedly still "open", but still wont even consider UM.

Dont know what that tells you, but it seems pretty clear to me what's going on there.

He doesn't want to be in Miami?

But he wont even meet with our coaches or take their calls?

or you are dreaming that he wants to shock the world and pick miami.

He's not going to be shocking anyone. Kid was Mr. Hurricane up until his Senior year when recruiting heated up, then just up and locks us out, commits to UGA, and refuses to meet with, or talk to our coaches, refuses to even consider us. Ive seen this movie before.

LOL wut?

Where have you been? Sony made a million unofficial visits to UM before his commitment to UGA. Even after his commitment he kept in contact with Miami's coaches enough to set up a visit to Miami for the Wake game. So where are you getting this he locked Miami's coaches out stuff and refuses to meet with them or take their calls?

CAPS4LIFE thinks its A) Never Gorlden's fault or B) any kid not coming to Miami is bought

Still Coker's fault that BFP Golden can't get it right? Got it. Thanks, Larry.

It comes down to winning and making the program exciting again. Make it exciting to play for Miami and recruiting will get better. At least thats one aspect of it IMO.

Njoku is legit, would be an exciting pickup amid an otherwise disappointing finish.

Winning is part of it. The other part is for the coaches to effectively recruit. I remember back in 02-03 when we had those sequentially disastrous classes (the John Wood type of classes) and the Corker slurpers were defending the low rankings (despite being perennial winners the years before) stating that kids didn't want to come to Miami because of how stacked we were. As we know now, that was just some mealy mouthed excuse for bad recruiting.

I have to disagree with you here. Yes there were people b*tching, because UM fans will b*tch about everything and anything, but on PAPER our recruiting was always near the top during those years 2002-2005ish. Kyle Wright, Kirby, both Elite 11 QBs. Ty Moss was a 4 star local RB. Charlie Jones was a 4 star local RB. Bobby Washington (who never enrolled) did sign with us, and was a 4 star local RB. We also signed Lance Legget (4 stars), Jolla (4 stars), Ryan Moore (5 stars), guys like Reggie Youngblood, Bryan Pata, Hester, Willie Williams, Calais Campbell, Eric Moncur, Lavon Ponder, Andrew Bain, James Bryant, Baraka Atkins, Rhyan Anderson, Greg Olsen, Leon Washington, Alex Pou, Tyler McMeans, Willie Cooper, Jon Beason, Orrien Harris, Kenny Phillips, and others. These were ALL 4 and 5 star guys. ON PAPER.

These classes were HIGHLY rated, and loaded with "paper studs". The problem was Coker was not evaluating sh*t, just relying on recruiting rankings, and these classes ended up being huge busts. But these were not "low rated" guys.
