2019 4-star RB Daniel Carter has racked up 27 offers already, including one from Miami. Playing over at local powerhouse St. Thomas Aquinas can come with pressure, but Carter is well-versed on what it is like to prepare on a championship level day in and day out.
“My junior year was good,” Carter said about last season. “I had 127 carries for 1000 yards and 18 touchdowns. My team did great. We fell short of the state championship this year, but I still love them boys and we’re going to play for one (a championship) this upcoming season.”
It’s that championship level of competition he sees every day that makes Carter feel confident no matter where he ends up in college. He’s not worried about Miami’s big RB haul of Lorenzo Lingard and Cam'Ron Davis from the 2018 class, and it won’t affect his final decision.
“There’s going to be competition everywhere you go. I love to compete and work hard.”
Co-offensive coordinator/RB coach Thomas Brown is Carter’s primary Cane recruiter and they’ve connected well.
“I hear from Thomas Brown, the running backs coach, the most,” Carter said. “We’re starting to build a good relationship.”
Also helping Miami? That’d be Carter’s close relationship with former teammate and current Cane WR Mike Harley. Although Carter is not far enough along in the process to name a top group, he claims Ohio State, Tennessee, Pitt, and LSU are coming after him the hardest, along with UM.
If he did have a top group though, what level of cut does he already know Miami will make?
“They’d be in my top 10,” Carter said.
So UM has to keep working Carter hard to get him aboard in this class. And to do that they’ll need to get him on campus to make him feel comfortable with the staff, players, and environment. Luckily for Miami, Carter plans just that.
“I’m planning on visiting Miami real soon,” said Carter. “I’m also working on visiting Florida, Tennessee, and LSU too.”
While he has no decision timetable at this point, Carter does know what he wants out of the program of his choice.
“A great education and somewhere that has a family environment. Somewhere I can build as a person.”
