Sophomore tackle Tyree St. Louis had mostly been taking reps with Sonny Odogwu as a right tackle during fall camp – until today. St. Louis told media after practice that he was working in with Trevor Darling today as a left tackle as it appears he has emerged as the “next man up” for both tackle positions.
“Coach (Searels) knows I can play right (tackle) so he wants to see if I can play left as well, so now I’m rotating with Trevor Darling,” St. Louis said.
The sophomore tackle said that although he played the position in high school, this was his first time really experimenting with it at Miami.
“It’s a little bit different. I haven’t really touched that position since my senior year of high school – especially against the competition out here. But being able to play both positions is the best thing for me in college.”
St. Louis spoke about battling the defensive line in practice.
“They’re a lot more physical because of Coach Kool. They do a lot more things in terms of twists and blitzes,” said St. Louis.
His thoughts on his position group’s performance in Wednesday night’s scrimmage?
“The offensive line did a lot better in the second scrimmage from the first scrimmage. You can tell by the running backs and how many yards they gained,” he added.
**Redshirt freshman Bar Milo’s transition from tackle to guard has not been easy, but it seems like he is finally getting a hold of things. Milo said he moved to guard “about four days ago”.
“Earlier in training camp, I was having a rough time – I was having mental issues. I went to coach (Searels) and told him and I can’t thank him enough for how patient he’s been with me,” Milo said.
“I haven’t been playing how I wanted to this whole training camp, but I’m starting to get back into that fun, festive mood that I usually get in when I’m on the field.”
“I think going to guard with my frame and having people on both sides of me with experience helps a lot. I feel comfortable so far,” he added.
A source told CanesInSight that Jahair Jones has also been working exclusively as a guard.
