It's a shame that a bunch of kids and stupid assistant coaches had to hang out with Nevin Shapiro, could have taken another 5-6 more kids.

Oh the gift that keeps on giving!

As I've been doing for the past few days, I will be adding updates to this thread as the day progresses.

**Here's a really cool story on Miami commit Jamal Carter: He will be visiting LSU this weekend, but Carter also revealed something really interesting on his twitter page this morning.

"Jus chilled wit my future coaches until It was time to check in."

"They really came to chill wit me before I went on a visit to another college! Dats real!!"

So apparently a group of Miami coaches went to meet with him at the airport with him before he got going. That's a really unique and aggressive strategy that Carter obviously appreciated. In another tweet, he told good friend Deon Bush that it was Paul Williams, Mike Barrow, and Mark D'Onofrio that went to see him at the airport. He also tweeted at Bush that he would be visiting Miami on January 18th. I've reiterated this a couple times over the past weeks, but I don't see much to worry about with Carter's commitment.

**In a follow-up to to the Carter update, January 18th is shaping up to be a huge visit weekend. Some names that are tentatively expected for visits for that weekend include: Jamal Carter, Tim Williams, Standish Dobard, Kevin Olsen, Dee Liner, and Alex Collins. More names could be added and some may not make it, but either way, that's an impressive early list thus far.

**I would be shocked if Devante Bond doesn't pick Miami sooner rather than later. The staff has put the full-court press on him the past couple of weeks. Tito Benach has been on top of the situation for weeks and here is his update with him from last night after meeting with Al Golden and Jethro Franklin: http://canesinsight.co/content.php?971-Bond-Talks-about-Coaches-Visit

**In regards to Tim Williams, he has been nearly impossible to get on the phone for an interview so it's tough for me to definitively say where he's leaning. I did talk to a Louisiana source last week who told me that if signing day was today (remember this was last week) that Williams would be a 'Cane. As far as his grades, which some people have had questions about, the same person told me that while his grades aren't "incredible," they should be good enough to qualify.

You must have gotten some bad info regarding Donofrio visiting w/ carter, bc several posters on here have said he doesn't bother w/ the recruiting.

Thanks again Pete for all the hard work to keep us all informed. You do a great job.

The REAL story - Micheal Barrow and Paul Williams were dropping D'Onofrio off at the airport for his final interview with Temple when they accidentally bumped into Carter. Quick on his feet Barrow realized the situation and made lemons out of lemonade, leaving Carter with the impression that they were actually there to see him. They chatted for so long that D'Onofrio missed his flight to Philly and subsequently removed his name from consideration.

So, the guy passed up on his first real HC opportunity to chat with a recruit at the airport? OK.

For all those who think we are whiffing at DT, I just know that I followed recruiting 25 years ago and I had never heard of Russ Maryland or Cortez Kennedy before they came to Miami. There were recruiting services back then, newsletters and the such. These guys' names were nowhere to be found. They ended up two of the best DTs in school history.

I'm not saying that will happen now, but you never know when it comes to recruiting. We still have a month and a half before NSD. A lot can happen. Remember, it's the fog of war.

When does RLIIITake his OV?

Does dad make that trip with him, depending on playoffs?

That would have to impact other kids on that same visit weekend?

Warren Sapp and Jerome Brown were also very good. Sapp was a TE coming to the U.

Very good? Jerome Brown was the best college DT I've ever seen and was on his way to a Hall of Fame NFL career. Sapp was just a beast, although he and Marley blew their wad celebrating too much that first half of the NC game against Alabama.
I agree with your overall sentiment but the odds of us finding all time greats amongst our current DT's is pretty slim.
We will find good DT's though as the talent is there, just not once in a generation type talent. There isn't a DT like Brown or Sapp in all of college football right now.
I'm sure someone will spout off a couple names and my pre-reply would be, "Are they amongst the best ever talent?" cause that's what we are talking about when we talk about The Tez, Brown and Sapp.

I think you need to include Maryland and Wilfork with them as well.
