Appreciate these pieces, but they are painful to read. I’m not just talking about you Roman, the spring RB preview was the same thing. This type of writing is why I eventually left SOTU and came here for real info. If I just wanted to read a massive word count of meaningless bull****, I’d pick up a NY Times or New Yorker magazine. This isn’t the great American novel here, there’s no need for so much dainty prose. Say what you want to say and get rid of all the extra bull**** words. Please.

I can’t find the great information you’re trying to share in between all the pretty flowers and lacy doilies.

Keep at it, and thanks for the info.

In terms of mjj

Footwork... inconsistent
Mobility.... impressive and obvious home run threat
Arm strength.... good (got stronger over the year)
Accuracy.... good (when he hits he hits)
Overall....4 star obvious take. We will refine him passing wise when he gets here

Fair enough. I tend to be a word warrior at times and I fully admit that. These breakdowns Will at times be extended because of the nature of it. I love to break down qbs and I'm hitting everything I can to paint the picture. Sometimes those pictures get rather detailed.

Ultimately I can promise you the nature of the piece will dictate a lot of my typed response but ill try to be short and concise in the forums.

Ultimately if you reach out to me for a more abridged version on the forum after the piece... I got no problem doing that. And is actually not a bad idea. Thanks for the feedback.

For others of us who enjoy doing the same as you and are also a bit wordy, we appreciate the breakdowns.

I'm of the opinion you can't break a kid down or compare without getting wordy. It's the nature of the film work. Just saying a kid is better bc he has better footwork or timing without showing examples or talking about his techniques is empty words without anything to back it up. Credibility is earned with details.

Glad to have you here and to benefit from your analysis. You do good work, just KISS.

Thanks again man!!

Michael Johnson Jr. is a 6'3" 190 Dual Threat sensation out of Sheldon High School in Eugene, Oregon. Johnson Jr. is a hybrid between a rocket and a cheetah and shows some uncanny improvisation skill on film. To date in his varsity career, he has amassed 5565 passing yards accompanied by 69 passing touchdowns. Johnson Jr. also has ran for 1878 yards and occupied pay dirt with his feet 28 times. This Miami target is clearly in the sights of quarterback coach Jon Richt who has racked up his frequent flyer mileage visiting the young man. CanesinSight will take a further look at Johnson JR on this edition's breakdown.

Allow me to try to help explain by providing a suggested rewrite:
Sheldon High dual threat sensation Michael Johnson Jr. (6'3", 190lbs) has ankle breaking agility and elite speed to go along with uncanny improvisational skills. (ED NOTE: rocket and cheetah have the same qualities, both fast, but neither exhibit particularly special change of direction abilities. The references are redundant and confusing.) To date in his varsity career, he's managed a stat line of 5,665 yards and 69 TD's through the air and run for 1,878 yds and 28 TD's. Jon and Mark Richt have made it clear that Johnson is their top QB target for the 2019 recruiting class.

Point 1: I don't need to read the kid's name three times in the opening paragraph alone.
Point 2: Don't use multiple words that describe the same attribute.
Point 3: There's no need in a piece like this to use wordy alternate explanations for things like rushing or passing touchdowns. The analysis gets lost amongst this type of imagery. Now, if you were writing a tear jerking human interest piece you could use a more flowery writing style.

TIFWIW, this is obviously just my two cents and I fully expect to get negged for being critical, but I hope to be helpful.

Again, thanks fam!!

Too bad we cant see what he does against kids from SFL. that's a different beast to go against, but looks good

I find as much film as possible. I only uploaded sophmore film because the jr film is somehow locked. (I watch Camps, game film etc too)Also after the breakdown his father sent me some more film to look at it.

But thank you for this clip. I really appreciate it.

Awesome man. I found that, for example, Jarren Williams' highlights didn't do him justice and he's even more impressive on game film. That's why I wanted to share game film for Johnson Jr. I mostly rely on 1on1 clips and highlights for WR/DBs and linemen because they rarely face legit matchups in HS games. With other positions I try to look for game film when possible.

Do you mainly scout players or do you break down scheme as well? I was wondering if this site could get access to coaches' tape (All-22) next season.

Right now I'm just easing into the offered qbs. But LOVE the scheme stuff. As far as coaches tape.... that might be in the d$ department.

Roman,
I have no idea who you are or what you did before coming over here but let me say that your addition to the CIS staff was a grand slam. Your analytical capabilities are off the charts and you are extremely articulate. I love reading your detailed breakdowns and you work has added tremendous value to the site. I'm very much looking forward to reading your analysis and insight and would hope that those will not be limited to prospect evaluations but also include X's and O's and scheme related topics on both sides of the ball.

PS. I actually enjoy your "dainty prose".
