Nice pickup.

Always great to get the recruits at the top of our board - especially from our backyard.

Would like to see another DL commit soon - Chatfield, the JUCO DT and hopefully a big-time national DT and perhaps even the DE from NC.

Pretty sure they’ll be done at DL after Goldwire and Chatfield commit

No Briggs?

Not sure that we need (or want) him. He's 250 which means he'll be a DT project. Plus, his recent admission about his hanging soft commitment to FSU probably opened their eyes.

Looking at our DT slate, I think success or failure will depend on Gus' magic this offseason. We've got a lot of bodies at the position, but no one proven - just a lot of guys with potential.

1st Team -- Norton & McIntosh
- If we can hold on to at least one of these two, we're in good shape. Lose both and **** gets a bit scary.
2nd Team -- Moten & Bethel
- Moten's gone, but we desperately need Bethel to take the next step this offseason
Bench -- Willis, Fines, Ford & Martin
- This is the key, IMO. We must have 3 of these guys to be huge contributors next season otherwise we are fvcked.
- If Willis takes on RJ's speed role, Ford steps into Norton's Nose role and Martin/Fines can provide good sub minutes, then we've got depth.
Newcomers -- Nesta & Goldwire
- We're going to need Nesta to contribute as best as a Freshman DT can, but we're going to need Goldwire a ton.

So in terms of numbers, we could have as many as 9 DTs if both Norton and McIntosh come back. I'm guessing one will leave (RJ) which leaves us with 8 DTs.

Either way, I say it's all up to big Gus and Kul.

Seems like we need way more than that on the DL, especially DT.

Was it just board speculation that DJ Johnson was going to get groomed to play DT?

Pete, chances he sticks? We better be ready for Bagmen Season.....

I would hope for one more DT considering Willis is senior and Goldwire is a JUCO who is looking to get to NFL ASAP. Not common for freshman to be major contributors at DT considering the physical demands. Might be most difficult position for freshman to contribute at alongside QB. Need to start developing guys for 2019 season and beyond.

Well done, Miami. Well freaking done! Is Joyner an early enrolled?

If you look at the scheme right now, our 4-3 no d of looks like a 4-2-5. The strong side LB is flexed out wide in space. He's not lined up in the traditional location just off the DE. He's the one that will line up on the TE side and especially when the TE is flexed in his pre-snap alignment. I suspect the. Coaches want a hybrid safety to play that position in the future.

Wow, no excuse for that...And I obviously digress if Tyreic Martin is this hidden stud none of us know about. But DT a top 3 need on this team along with TE and CB
It's a must D.Johnson moves inside now, but even if he does you would think 3 gotta be the number.

Every power house defense in the country throws big numbers at the DL. Bama, FSU, LSU...mind-boggling to me we aren't on it heavier.

Hopefully Carson AT LEAST.

Assuming DJ Johnson moves inside...Since Kul taking over these are the DT we brought in

Martin, Ford, Johnson, Bethel, Silvera, (Goldwire or whoever for 2nd spot)

5 in 3 years at that position ain't cutting it
And then there's a chance DJ stays outside? Really ugly.

Obviously the man can coach, but just seems like nowhere near a big enough net.

DJ Johnson is 40+ pounds from being ready to slide inside.

And that is assuming that was ever actually an intention of the staff in the first place, and not just message board speculation.

Probably like 25. Looks like he’s hovering around 265-270 at 6’4.5

DT Michael Thompson not visiting?

Not very different from Chad. Sure He'll probably slide inside in passing situations, but he's a DE. We aren't in a crazy position of need at 3tech that would require him to play DT. We actually might have a bigger need at DE than we will DT imo.

Agree

One of Briggs or Hawkins should have been in this class no matter what if you aren't landing a big timer OOS (along w Goldwire)...Like Briggs a little better? OK that's fine...go all out for him. He is jerking you around for FSU or just taking too long---move onto Hawkins. I understand Gran and UK seem to be heavy in Broward right now, but I would full court press Hawkins at this point and make him say I want to go to UK over UM. I mean come on it's UK---there's a 7 win ceiling there and that's pushing it.
