Or there could be no #1 at all, but yeah, I agree with what you're saying. My biggest concern is the portion you didn't highlight.

if there was no pecking order that would not be fair to Malik for what he did accomplish last year. None of the other guys have even a lick of college game experience. But reading between the lines all these guys will have the same opportunities at #1. And it is clear from the coaches messaging they are not satisfied with a repeat performance of last year even if it was a step forward.

If our first 2 games were cake walks and the QB battle was close I would say lets ride with Perry. But there is no Cane fan out there who thinks Perry will be ready for 100k fans in Dallas Stadium (70k of them being LSU fans), with the pressure of proving to the nation last year wasn't a one year wonder for the program and think he will be ready for that. I really hope I'm wrong. I really do.

Look we all know Malik is inconsistent and he is the worst practice QB we have ever had. BUT this kid has been in big games and is a gamer at times. Won some, lost some. Lets give him the benefit of the doubt until proven otherwise. If he wins the job and we get spanked by LSU and he played like crap..pull the plug and go with Perry the rest of the season. Or whoever won the backup job.
