Good info guySM, thanks.

Carlos Huerta worked out well, too (originally a walk-on).

One day, just one day, I hope one of these walk on guys is our Baker Mayfield / Hunter Renfrow and just balls out to become legendary.

From a transfer perspective, Adrian Colbert was as good as anyone could have ever reasonably imagined. It looks like he'll be in the NFL for a while. Brock Berlin was a great transfer for us as well. From a walk-on perspective, Santana and Joaquin... there are your legends.

Some of you are ridiculous. It is news of a roster transaction so I am going to report it.

Don't take it personal Pete.

15 straight years of misery & an underwhelming finish to the season/start to the off-season has everyone feeling a little feisty. Nice depth. Our coordinators still suck. Thanks for the info.
Well put! No disrespect to the new arrival. Welcome!

Some of you are ridiculous. Is Miami going to be counting on this kid to be an impact player? No.

But it is news of a roster transaction so I am going to report it. Nothing more, nothing less

Keep all the info coming and ignore comments from some of our so-called fans.

Also, let us know about that 10th coach.

Literally nobody in this thread has spoken down on this guy, everyone just saying we'd love for him to become great and Pete is telling us to settle down.

Really?

How did he get Navy to release him?

Pretty sure that the academy players must decide whether or not to sign on for the full commitment after their first or second year. Navy's FB (Gargiulo?) was torn between returning to Navy or leaving at the end of last year because he wasn't sure he wanted to make the full commitment.

Have to make a commitment after their second year. Two kids I know from my area are at Annapolis right now. Friend's son was a guard at USAFA. He transferred after his second year to go play in California. Kid weighed 300 pounds and there was no way he was ever going to make weight to be comissioned. He had to get down to around 235 and Calhoun wanted him bigger.

Didn't see the kid on their varsity roster. He may have gone to Navy Prep which a lot of football players do to meet the Naval Academy academic standards. Or he may have played junior varsity which most of the freshmen do. I'd suspect he may have done both.

Welcome onboard kid.

Whatever helps our scout teams, practices & special teams is good

Thanks for the news Pete, legitimately.
Despite how it may seem like the whole board is full of idiots some times, a lot of us more silent people appreciate everything you do.

Paging Albert Bentley

Albert Bentley should be a legend, but he's not. For some reason, the people on these message boards have forgotten--or never learned--about Hurricane football of the early 1980's, the teams that established our national championship level of competitiveness.

Unlike Gonzalez and Moss, Bentley was not a recruited walk-on, but a kid who actually showed up at practice and was discouraged from trying out. At least that's the story I was told by athletic department staff in the '80's.

He turned out to be a **** of a football player and actually did quite well in both pro leagues, the USFL and the NFL.

The third link is the Colts cheerleader of the week. This has nothing to do with Albert Bentley, but I noticed it on the Colts page while researching Albert. She's not a waste of your time, so I linked to her.

I remember when we used to play Navy regularly and they beat us regularly. Last game I remember was around 1970 and they beat us.

They were especially good during the Joe Bellino-Roger Staubach era. They were usually as good as or better than we were.

My father told me, years ago, about how he would take the train from NY to Philadelphia to see the Army-Navy game. He had no connection to either school, although he might have been an enlisted man in the Army during WWII and I know that often those who served in one of the branches also supported the sports teams for that branch's academy. My father probably took that trip sometime in the 1940's. Also, sometime in the '40's, my father attended UM and wrote for the student newspaper.

The service academy teams were national powers back then.

Here's a trivia question: In the 1940's, one of the outstanding college QBs played at both Army and UM. Who was it?

Arnold Tucker. Was Assistant AD in 70s. Good friend of my father. Retired Colonel. Irony is he commanded my flying squadron, 16th Special Operations Squadron, in Vietnam. Great guy. I think he is still alive.

Right. I believe he is in college football HOF. Was he assistant AD at West Point or UM?

You know which Army assistant, who coached Tucker (and the legendary Glen Davis and Doc Blanchard), later ended up at UM?

Easy question.

Did you work at the Pentagon? Had a good friend who was in the Naval Reserve who did reserve duty at the Pentagon for years. He was president of the UM alumni group in D.C. in the '80's. He died a few years ago.

Tucker is in College HOF. Andy Gustafson. Gus used to park in my grandfather's garage in downtown Miami. Yes, ran a division on the Air Staff as my last job in 2007.

Good answers. Another UM trivia, another easy one. Wisconsin QB family connection to UM. Bet a lot of younger fans don't know. Almost a legacy. What is it? You know, for sure.

Darian Stephenson, originally class of 2016 from Westminster Christian, is transferring from Navy to Miami as a preferred walk-on and enrolls next week.

Stephenson had multiple D1 offers before a knee injury in the summer heading into his senior season.

He tore his ACL at FIU camp, which caused programs to lose some interest. Stephenson was a versatile LB prospect that a few major staffs (including Miami) were planning to track during his senior year before that injury.

Any word on how the knee had healed?

If he can tackle and block on special teams I'll take him on my squad

He's not a scholarship player, so this post makes zero sense. Walkons that come in and can actually contribute in some way are a bonus.

yep

ask clemson fans what they said when dabo let hunter renfrow walk on the team

ya know the guy that killed bama in back to back national championships. definitely not the normal, but they can be great additions and literally don't hurt at all
