A post from 247Sports highlighted some of the top breakout candidates for the upcoming season, and among them was Elija Lofton, the tight end for the Miami Hurricanes.
Here is what 247Sports stated about the upcoming sophomore tight end:
"Elija Lofton is turning heads at Miami. The former Top247 recruit is a matchup problem for opposing defenses and flashed a bit of that as a true freshman a year ago. With Elijah Arroyo off to the NFL, the door is wide open for Lofton to become a go-to weapon in the Hurricanes' passing attack. New Miami quarterback Carson Beck needs a reliable target and often leaned on tight ends during his time at Georgia. That chemistry could pay off quickly. Lofton had nine catches for 150 yards and a touchdown last season."
It definitely looks like he made significant progress in his performance, as tight ends coach Cody Woodel has been complimenting him throughout the spring practices.
"He is the most unique player I've ever coached up to this point in my career. And outside of his athletic ability, the leadership that he's already established as a true sophomore and the respect that he's earned throughout the program, 'cause of his diligent hard work, that speaks for itself. He is a Swiss army knife that creates a lot of different matchups. "Said Coach Woodel.
Last season with the Hurricanes, he recorded nine catches for 150 yards over seven games. However, this coming season, he is poised to make significant progress in his performance.
New opportunities await for this young man and we will get to see a glimpse of him today during the Spring Game.
