Miami LB Raul Aguirre Enters Transfer Portal

It kinda is about the snaps… Popo doesn't want another year of playing about 25% of defensive snaps.

He would get double that this season at Miami with Wes and Chase gone (assuming Chase is gone, which I "think" he is). The idea that Bonner or Wiley would jump him seems like a big stretch to me. Maybe this mystery portal kid is a threat. But I see it more about wanting the NFL to view him as a starter and leader of the front 7 than just snaps.

Guaranteed starter spot somewhere else huh? So I'm assuming it has to be somewhere that runs the same Defense. So he won't have to compete during spring and summer huh? Teams are just going to give him a playbook and say "you're the starter now"? Yeeeaaah football doesn't work like that.

Not a lock…What if Wiley gets Wes's snaps?

So while I agree he is line to get some more snaps, it still may not be enough.

With Toure coming back, I figured we would lose someone. Sucks thats its Popo but I get it. He probably wants start.

I wish him all the best

Bigger bag move...but do it privately.

I don’t know if possible but could he start next to Toure? I know they play the same position but is he not that versatile?
He’s a Mike all the way. Imo Bonner and the younger guys are the one’s you want at Will. Bonner is the one guy people are sleeping on since he was banged up this year. They paid him a lot of money to come here. I’d still like Popo to come back to fill in at both. Filling in at Mike and even in a pinch at will is fine. You just don’t want him out there games at a time.

Plays same position a Tourre. Once that return was announced it meant backup snaps at Popos natural MLB spot or additional reps playing out of position. Plus no green dot. Overall depth behind him is a non factor from the players perspective, Tourre is the only one that mattered and he is now returning.

He is in his money year, can’t really fault him if he does transfer for final season.

Overall, if the worst defects we had this cycle were Kinsler and Popo, we did pretty good compared to other top programs. Land Mensah and Barkate and it’s a successful cycle.

I’m concerned about OL and LB, but our defense should be nasty. Our Oline won’t be as physically imposing but our offense should be more explosive through the air. We can contend if we stay healthy.

Guy are brought in to start all the time. Unless they just are completely bad

He wants to start. Nothing more to this.
Yeah he said that. It ain’t about the money. But we should start both he and Toure. He had more tackles than Wes in a backup role with 1/3 the snaps.

He wants to play in the NFL & needs to put snaps on tape to do so. He will play a lot somewhere & be very good doing it.

In our 4-2-5 the two LBs are interchangeable. They’re both asked to do the same things. Even on passing downs. Because this is a zone blitzing scheme that asks both LBs to was the A/B gaps and watch pulling guards with their specific "force" or "spill" roles determined by the ball's location, making them functionally the same on plays. Then play hook to curl and flats at times. We often have the ends drop in coverage quite a bit when the Star/Rover or safety comes. A lot of disguised looks.
