Miami is expected to hire Minnesota Corey Hetherman as DC

The Miami Hurricanes have their defensive coordinator. Minnesota defensive coordinator Corey Hetherman will be taking the same position with the Canes.

In games against FBS opponents, Minnesota finished 10th nationally in scoring defense (18.3 PPG), 14th in yards per play (4.7) and 19th in yards per pass attempt against (6.3).

Like Mario Cristobal, the 44-year-old Hetherman comes from the Greg Schiano coaching tree, having coached linebackers at Rutgers from 2022-23.

Hetherman had tremendous success at the FCS level. In 2021, he was named AFCA FCS Assistant Coach of the Year after coordinating James Madison's No. 2-ranked defense in the nation. He also served as Maine's defensive coordinator from 2016-18, leading the FCS in rushing defense, interceptions and fumble recoveries in his final season.

Hetherman is a Massachusetts native who played quarterback at Fichburg State from 2003-06.

As a Hurricane fan I can say its much easier to roll with the negative on a hire , recruit or the season. The stats show most of this stuff ends badly. Being a mope is the smarter route statistically. But I’ll put my name on this one , I love this hire and I’d be shocked if it flops. This is the best hire Mario has made imo. Which isn’t saying a lot but still.

the game time management thing is a little old. he already hired someone and was improved last year. Our defense killed us.

it is an incredible jump honestly in one year. context is missing and sample size is small, but what he did at Minnesota earned him al lengthy extension and obviously mario's connect to schiano helped

Id say it IS saying a lot given his OC hire just led us to the clear best offense in the country, and is the reason we got Ward and now Beck.
