I’d imagine by now there’d be a ton of substantial evidence that Duke was really going to fight this. UW had the media mouthpieces blabbering in minutes.

You think Duke wouldn’t be able to some mouth breather spewing their plan.

Williams signed with the school, Mensah had an NIL deal. I believe that is why Washington had recourse and Duke doesn't

I think Fletcher staying would be the only reason for Brown to consider the portal. He’s likely the lead back, sharing reps with Pringle if Fletcher has a huge game tomorrow night that makes him reconsider declaring.
100 percent agree however Fletcher needs to make his mind up asap after tonight . We don’t have time for bs either you’re staying or going to the nfl . The portal is like days after tonight right ?

1. These evaluators rank these players based on pro potential and Lagway still has more pro potential than Mensah (bigger arm, more physical traits, etc). Doesn't mean he will be a better pro, just means he has better traits.

2. We've had the No. 1 or No. 2 ranked portal class each of the last two years, were we bagging on the evaluators then or only when they don't rank our players higher?

I know everyone loves to **** on the Andrew Ivins' of the world, but I will die on the hill that ranking high school and college players is mostly a crapshoot, the difference between the No. 5 and No. 6 quarterback in the rankings is negligible and generally speaking, these guys do a good job.
I still don’t understand why the media and CFB fans across the country are up in arms or surprised when all these elite programs keep electing for portal QB’s. I don’t care how talented a high school QB is, it’s no substitute for experience. Let’s say, hypothetically, Miami could have gotten Bryce Underwood in last year’s class…are we really passing up on a guy like Beck for him? No way in ****. As you saw, Michigan took some lumps this year going with him as the starter. Meanwhile, as you’ve seen with Beck, supreme confidence, supreme poise, been through the wars at the highest level, etc. There’s just no substitution for that. I don’t care how talented a player is. And the thing is it’s almost impossible to hold onto them and develop them because if they don’t start year one they’re gone.

best possible option for us in 2026

I'll go on record saying I'm not as high on him as I was on ward or beck but ultimately we're subjected to the qb portal market every year and Mensah is the best option and for that the staff should get incredible credit

He’s right between Ward and Beck for me in terms of how high I am on him prior to spring ball.
yeah I respect that. if anyone had concerns about beck's injury I could see Mensah a step above beck

Mario Cristobal is the mother loving man...the national media swore up and down we were cooked at QB, never seen grown men be so happy about those prospects. MC pushed them in the face and they are butt hurt. BLAKE RUFFINO GET YOUR *** OVER HERE!!! LMAO.

idk what jojo plans. I don’t think us getting 2 is necessarily a sign of anything tho. We’re losing CJ, Marion, and Johnson due to graduating. We’ve already lost Ny, Ray Ray and Chance.

We need bodies at WR. And can’t simply rely on 4 freshman to fill those roles. Plus Moore and Upshaw themselves are raw and inexperienced. Maybe they’ll be ready for big roles next year or maybe not. It’s best to bring in guys with experience to push them and compete.
We definitely need bodies but we didn’t just bring bodies we paid guys to come start. I don’t know if we bring in two guys that probably cost good money if they were high on jojo. Him not having a guaranteed spot to start might be enough for him to want a new scenery for his last two years

Yea he reminds me of Ward with regard to his ability to buy time and improvise, but not quite on the same level as Ward. Beck’s strengths were more about the intangibles(leadership, poise, mental toughness, etc.) The things I like about Mensah are his arm, TD/INT ratio, and his ability to improvise as I eluded to.

Makes perfect sense = everyone from California is coming to Miami - Florida, the no income tax state. $2mm pays NC $85k tax and likely $700k+ federal...Miami $5mm creates likely take home of $3mm after tax. That's more than $2 million extra to play with and he won't need much winter gear
False. The no income tax doesn’t hold nearly as much sway as people try to make it.

No way you guarantee him a starting spot. Craziest thing I've read on here in a while.

His route to a starting spot is to be better than the other WRs.

Does this staff guarantee anyone a starting spot? I'd be surprised to hear they did. I know it's fairly obvious who will be the starter if a player is already starting (even at another school like Beck last year) and is producing, but I'd bet everyone else is told they'll have a chance to compete. For Trader, I think the pitch is fairly simple- we like you, you've come a long way, stay healthy and keep getting better every day and we know you're going to play a lot.

The North Carolina income tax rate is 3.99% for 2026. Let's assume that he has $0 in local deductions, that means if he was making $5M per year, he would pay ~$200K in local taxes in NC vs $0 in FL and he is going to pay the same Federal taxes in either state.

Is $200K a lot of money - Yes! How much does it factor into the big picture when we you are making $5M per year and only going to be there one year... particularly when there are other considerations like setting you up for the pros?

I think with the numbers we are talking and the short time frame, that the difference in state taxes between Miami and Duke becomes more of a nice to have perk/bonus vs having any significant weight in the decision - that is how I would look at it anyway.

Think you read it wrong..Im not saying we should have at all, im saying him not having a path to a guaranteed starting spot might be enough to push him out. Hopefully he stays but its gonna be year3, its either you become the starter or he’s probably gone
