The winter transfer portal officially opened on January 2, and Miami has already seen several players decide to explore their options. That list grew again today, as defensive back Charles Brantley plans to enter the transfer portal.

Brantley declared his plans to enter the portal on Wednesday after spending one year at Miami.

Charles Brantley transferred to Miami from Michigan State, where he spent three seasons, and appeared in limited action this year for the Hurricanes, finishing with one tackle while playing behind a crowded and talented defensive back room.

The 6’0, 179-pound defensive back had a productive 2024 season at Michigan State, recording 27 tackles, two tackles for loss, and three interceptions. According to PFF, he allowed 14 receptions for 149 yards on 37 targets without giving up a touchdown.

We wish him best of luck!

Sometimes the timing is weird with these guys. Unless the staff has moved on from him and like the incoming freshmen better, it seems like next year would be a great chance for him to get into the rotation.

Would he? He is an outside CB, we have Lucas, OJ, O'Connor all coming back. As well as slime who was getting reps over him already. so he is 5th at best next year as well. If he was a safety or better suited for nickel, I agree we have some openings but I think he is a true CB.

Sucks. I had high hopes for him as he was pretty **** good at MSU.

There’s nothing weird about his decision to hit the transfer portal. Why would he just sit there knowing he hasn’t contribute and won’t contribute next year? U want him to stay so he can celebrate a championship and move on? There ain’t no fulfillment in that. He might as well hit the transfer portal and try to find pt somewhere else. Why wait until it’s all over?

knew it was him when I saw the headline “Miami CB enters portal before the semi-final game tomorrow”

'Quit the team before the national semi-final game' will be attached to his file forever.

Probably could have waited a day but wasn’t getting reps here and the portal timing along with playoffs sucks. I’m assuming the issue impacting kids looking to transfer are the enrollment deadlines at the schools they transfer to.

If they wait too long I’m guessing they’d run into timing issues of finding a new school, negotiating NIL, and getting enrolled before the cutoff.

Good luck to him.

as soon as we found out Damari and OJ were good we told buddy he can bounce.
