I know.. I just figured the deja vu factor was worth poking fun at.... Still don't want the kid playing unless it's mop up duty within the four game limit he has.... Other than that get him in S&C for the year and let him start balling out in his RS Frosh year...
Agreed Berg. We should hopefully have enough bodies to fill a 5 man OL and some more to get in mop up duty like Rivers and others. That way we can let these 3 come in and RS, get stronger, and learn good technique under Justice.

I’d put him closer to Winston as a 4 star that’s one of the best OLs in FL who’s a former TE. Zion was a 2 star nobody.

Yes , both playing TE is what made me think of Winston, in addition to similar HS height and weight. I thinK McLaughlin has good grades and Winston did too - ie both are / were at least book smart (but not positive on this last part).

He still needs to redshirt. High School boys going against grown men in their 3rd and 4th year in college is not a preferred match up. Hopefully the current guys on the roster realize their potential and we won't even have to consider playing freshmen linemen or any other position.

You guys gotta slow down with playing early or getting in the rotation talk...

OL's need a year in the strength program & time to develop before they hit the field.

Miami is not a program where we can have the benefit of the doubt of playing young OLineman too early, our issues offensively have been centered around poor OL development, the last thing we need is more TF's getting snaps.

McLaughlin is a promising prospect but under no circumstances should he see the field as a TF & I mean none at all.

Did yall forget that this kid has only played OT for ONE year in HS??

I respectfully disagree on this one EL. I don't think they should get meaningful snaps, but if you have 4 games allowed and you're redshirting you should get on the field.

This is good news but he still should take a redshirt. The few clips of him in 1 on 1s looked good but you could see he obviously lacked strength which is expected.
Yeah there’s no way this kid will be a day one contributor imo. Give him a RS let him get adjusted to OL vs college kids.

Development is key. Can't keep blowing that wad early. Gotta reputation to uphold.

The teams with the big hogs usually by majority are anchored by upper classmen.

40 lbs in 8 months? got to wonder if thats good or bad weight.

As Florida continues to deal with the effects of the coronavirus shutdowns, Miami 4-star OT commit Michael McLaughlin has adjusted to life in quarantine and figured out a routine. “I normally get up around 8 or 9, get my workout in for the day, knock out some schoolwork, then I hang out at home for a while.” The work the 6’7” McLaughlin has put in over the offseason has had a huge impact, as he has completely reshaped his body from where he was at the end of last season. “I’m up 40 pounds from the season, sitting between 285 and 290.” Aside from just getting bigger, McLaughlin has also been working on improving his technique. The Marjory Stoneman Douglas star just played his first season on the OL as a junior in 2019. “I’ve been working with my trainer about twice a week. We mostly focus on pass protection, but once every few sessions, we do run blocks also.” Miami offensive line coach Garin Justice has kept in regular contact with McLaughlin throughout the past few months as the two continue to build a relationship. “He still sends me edits and still recruits me although I’m committed. I also keep him updated on the progress I’ve made this offseason as well.” McLaughlin continued, “A little while ago, we had a Zoom call and went over some film and technique together.” Elsewhere in this recruitment, McLaughlin says he has not spoken to any other schools since he committed to Miami despite offers from FSU, Ole Miss, Virginia Tech, and Louisville among others. “No one else is recruiting me anymore, I shut down my recruitment when I committed.” With McLaughlin locked into the class, Miami has three offensive linemen committed as of right now – McLaughlin and interior prospects Laurence Seymore and Ryan Rodriguez. “I had the chance to meet a few other guys in the class at Rivals camp and UA camp earlier this year.” McLaughlin continued, “I met Seymore and Rodriguez, I was also on a Zoom call with them a couple weeks ago as well. I think we will work great together.” McLaughlin also told CIS he is on pace to enroll early at Miami in January in time for spring football.

This is great news! Finally, tackles who look like the can play! One thing is for sure, Garin Justice has Dramatically upgraded the Talent on the Canes offensive line recruiting since arriving at Coral Gables! Offensive line recruiting is light years ahead of Searles! Rivers, Taylor and McLaughlin are clearly more talented than any Freshman lineman that started Last season. Finally, we got some real talent again on the offensive line!

The argument of one kid playing or not early is dumb. We all know it’s bad if you’re OL or DL is full of underclassmen because you lack depth and especially talent. However, we are getting some studs lately. It wouldn’t surprise me at all to see a kid like Rivers start at guard as a frosh then slide out to tackle next year. Bama has been doing that for years. Guys shouldn’t shirt just because they are OLs. We are getting guys that might only be here 3 years now. It’s light years ahead of the Washington’s, Nelson’s, and El Gammals of the world. Heck, Rivers would’ve started on this team last year. It’s fine if one frosh is playing meaningful snaps. It’s an issue when it’s the majority of your OL like last season. If the Douglas kid is putting on good weight, he’s coming in at an ideal size. Hopefully he’s ready. He sure as **** will be more ready than Zion was last year.

I heard he is 287 lbs. Even then needs S&C for a year here to get strength and weight up to 300-310.
