Man, oh man, the portal just opened eight days ago, where players can officially commit to a school. Miami has already landed two top-25 transfer portal recruits, and you couldn’t have asked for a better start for Jai Lucas in the portal.
Somto Cyril was the first player to commit to Miami to get this craziness in the portal started for the 2026–27 Miami Hurricanes offseason.
Georgia transfer center Somto Cyril committed to the Hurricanes on Sunday afternoon. Somto is going to bring so much to the Miami Hurricanes, and he still has two more years under his belt. He was the SEC’s leading shot blocker and is a beast in the paint. His nickname is “Baby Shaq,” and that’s about all you need to know if people call him that.
Yesterday afternoon, Jai Lucas received another big momentum boost, as Villanova point guard transfer Acaden Lewis, who Lucas has been recruiting since high school, committed to Miami.
Acaden might not bring three-point elite shooting to his game, but he played in what I’d say is the hardest conference in America, the Big East, and still dished out five assists per game while averaging double figures. Acaden also brings a lot of upside on the defensive end.
You can now maybe pencil in the starting five: Acaden Lewis, Dante Allen, Shelton Hednerson, Caleb Gaskins, and Somto Cyril, if the roster was due today.
But Miami is still looking to add another big and more players for depth. Miami is in contention for many top transfers in the portal, with Bryson Tiller being a name to watch, as the Miami Hurricanes and the Missouri Tigers are the teams to watch there, as his recruitment is heating up.
If Miami just so happens to bring in Tiller soon, Miami would have the No. 1 ranked class in America, according to the calculations of the 247Sports class calculator.
