Miami’s offseason keeps rolling.
The Hurricanes officially added 6-foot-11 center Egor Ryzhov, giving Jai Lucas another experienced piece as he continues to reshape the roster. Ryzhov comes to Coral Gables after playing professionally in Russia, making him one of the more experienced newcomers on Miami’s team despite this being his first season in college basketball.
Ryzhov isn’t your typical freshman big man. He’s already spent time playing against professionals, where he averaged 11.7 points and 5.9 rebounds while shooting nearly 55 percent from the field. That experience should help him adjust quickly to the college game, especially in a physical conference like the ACC.
Miami needed more size in the frontcourt, and Ryzhov fills that need immediately. At nearly seven feet tall, he gives the Hurricanes another true post presence who can rebound, protect the rim, and finish around the basket. He also adds valuable depth behind Somto Cyril, giving Miami another reliable option in the paint throughout the season.
One thing has become clear since Jai Lucas took over the head coaching job, he isn’t afraid to recruit from anywhere. High school stars, transfer portal additions, and now international talent have all become part of Miami’s roster overhaul. Ryzhov is another example of Lucas looking beyond the traditional recruiting trail to find players who can make an impact. You got to love to see that.
Every time Miami adds another piece, the roster looks a little better.
