Argument about what constitutes "elite" in track coming in 3...2...1...

Miami should be on this kid for track and if he decides to play football that's a bonus.

The list is long of teenage phenoms who not only never went on to become world beaters but also never got better. And I’m afraid that’s what will happen to Cooper. Not because of doubts I have about his talent but because of the incompetence of his coaching setup. Cooper ran over 70 races last year. That’s not just foolish, it’s abuse.

As for track athletes making money...they don’t. The lowest paid rookie in the NFL will make more than 98% of Olympic semi finalists (60 athletes) in the 100m and the 1500m, which are the two highest paid events.

For money, he better choose football. For track, he better choose better coaches immediately.

Not sure about that ^^ He is on track to make some good cash. Look at what shoe companies are throwing at track athletes - and I'm not even mentioning bolt because he's on another planet. You can be a very good sprinter and make millions and have a long career (gatlin).

Great!!.... Just what we wanted to hear...how shoe companies throw money out to athletes!! Can we at least wait for the dust to settle from our current "shoe company throwing money at athletes" clusterfu€k?!?!?

He's fast.

And this is a fun clip to watch. But it doesn't tell us what kind of an overall football player, or even what kind of a return man, he is.

He caught the ball, he made one uncontested cut, and then just ran down the sideline. Yeah he's really fast. But that's all you can tell from this clip. One cut and then down the sideline.

Holy ****

At first I thought he wasn't that fast on that kickoff but then I realize how far he ran in that short amount of time.

**** that kid is smooth af

Dumb.

Everyone knows that's almost the only way to make $ in track is through endorsement deals.

This whole thread is dumb because Cooper is nothing special at football, but he's one of the best 200/400m prospects in recent US history. Only in S FL would people be dumb enough to think he has to play football in college

Gatlin is an Olympic Gold medalist (2004) and 2x world champion in 2005...he’s an exception. But, Mike Rodgers who has made multiple teams doesn’t make a million/yr. Plus, the shoe companies write reductions into most contracts which means if your performance falls off so does your base money.

This will give you an idea

...Behind the scenes, though, it was more complicated. New Balance had offered Berian a three-year deal worth $125,000 a year but legally Nike had six months to match it. Which it did – but with significant financial reductions if Berian got injured or underperformed.

Here’s what professional runners guessed Berian’s salary was

The kid's a potential world class track star, but he says his first love is football and didn't want to stop playing.

He's playing in the most football-centric area in the entire United States against the best high school competition anywhere.

We'll find out soon enough whether he's a legit -- but great to see him giving it a shot.
