LB recruiting note

It's pretty obvious that we're transitioning to more of a 4-2-5 look.

And that's a great thing if so.

Yes. I mentioned this the other day in a thread. All you have to do is look at the way they’re recruiting all of these versatile and long DBs

Dont think they are. They are going after a lot of LBs in 2019. And diaz barely takes a LB off the field now for a extra DB.
That’s because we barely have any DBs.

I think the staff will be moving player's around, especially IF our Canes sign the mega DB class for Storm18' (Jobe, Blades, Frierson, Hall, Ivey and HOPEFULLY Campbell)!! PPL might down play it, BUT it could definitely be a possible.. Diaz likes his DEFENSE to be fast and physical, and the way I watch him use certain player's, I really believe Diaz has other plans for some of them!! Then IF Miami move to that 4-2-5 look..

A. Carter 6'2" 198 lbs
D. Smith 6'2" 200 lbs
R. Finley 6'1" 205 lbs
Converting these player's to OLB is very possible, and we all know Diaz likes to rotate a lot of bodies throughout the game.. Speed is definitely what the staff wants to improve on and this would be a good start at the OLB position!!

Realus George 6'2" 245 lbs
Don't sleep on this guy coming in as a two way player!! MLB/FB

Taking 0 linebackers I feel will come back to bite us in the future.

Yep. Mistake imo. Besides, LBs are the foundation of STs coverage units.
We have 1 DT committed and 0 LBs committed.

Maybe it all works out great. But anyone who isn't concerned as a fan about that situation is just relying on blind faith rather than actually thinking.

100% agree. Need 1-2 more DTs. I also think we need 2 more DEs after Rousseau. Over the next 2 years, we lose 3-4 DEs. With the way we rotate DEs, we need to pay attention to that as well.

the 4-2-5 reasoning makes sense

Would love to see more combo packages with guys like Amari Carter, Derrick Smith, some of the freshman DBs, etc. coming up in the box as hybrid S/LB types.

We saw it against ND and VT and it was great

Agree and I'm really excited about it if this is actually what they're thinking.

6’2 190 lb dbs can be the basis for our special teams from now on.

Nothing screams modern football like a 250 pound middle linebacker.

Please oh please let this 4-2-5 transition be true. If we can run that VT scheme with our athletes we might not lose another game in the ACC. VT has ran that 4-2-5 and has produce top 10 units almost every year. Not only that but it makes us less dependent on Manny's LB coaching and recruiting abilities.

My thing is will our S&C (Strength portion) program get these DB strong enough to make up for having 1 less LB on the field on more consistent basis. Seems to work for VT so why not us.

4-2-5 or not. Taking 0 at a position is not smart

Have to agree. So here is hoping Joyner goes against everything he has said in public and flips.
Although I don't understand what he is waiting for if he was decommit

We have more able dbs then linebackers at the moment

Peter Ariz what about Jamien Sherwood? Any interest from the staff and vice versa? He seems to fit the mold of a versatile linebacker

Exactly......signing zero from position groups leads to inevitable depth issues 2-3 years down the road. Just hope everyone remembers this in 2 years when they're ing about depth and youth at DT and LB.

And I completely agree with this move. We play our best defense when we roll out 2 LBs and either an extra CB or Safety. Too many pass oriented teams today. Did you guys see how many times teams went 3 and 4 WRs yesterday? You can’t put a traditional LB in the Sam spot and expect him to cover.

I’d rather go after more Amari Carter / Derrick Smith type Safeties who can play up if needed. Or look for more Bandy’s.

That’s going to help us way more so than a bunch of LBs. I say go after Joyner and or Bonnitto and that’s it.

We need speed in our second level!!

Yea I don't believe they'll take 0 linebackers

Not feeling that. You gotta take LBs even if for ST depth. Stop playing games and get Nik! F!

They must think Shaq, Pinckney, and McCloud are 4 year players

No ****ing way they’re that naive. At least 2/3 will be gone.

Disagree. 2 are average. 1 is mediocre at this point.

Completely agree with you, makes you wonder if some of our fans watch other games to see what an impact Lb plays like. Our 3 LBs were great last year as we were the only team in all of college football starting 3 true freshman LBs and they played well for their class but none of the 3 have taken their game to another level,at this point they're 4 year guys and no guarantee all even get drafted(Mcloud).

We have like 10 linebackers on scholarship with 0 seniors. Could we lose 1 or 2 maybe but staff likes what they have I trust this staff
