When Penn St was winning big a lot of the top DC players were going there. Same can be said about Va tech. The problem that I have seen in the past but not the last ten years is that the best players from the DC Metro area had problems that sent D1 colleges away from them and never made it to the big time programs

"Figueroa's high school coach, Jeff Berry, says "It's been a long journey for him. ... He was going to be heavily recruited, on that path. Going into his junior year he was one of the top guys in the state. But his grades, that hindered the process."

Figueroa says he is still rehabbing his labrum injury and that he expects to be cleared for contact in April - he will likely wear a red non-contact jersey during spring drills.

He says he was recruited as a linebacker, but he also played defensive end and receiver in high school.

"Just wait to see some highlights of his," Berry said. "He's aggressive, fast - he's a football player. He can do a lot of different things for you, is very violent on the football field.

"He's one of those type of guys that can do a lot of different things. I don't think they pigeon-holed him into the linebacker position yet. He could be a linebacker, rush end or tight end/H-back."

Also says he was 240 before his injury and is 220 right now

Maybe they don't want to be down to Fentress if one or two guys go down.

Thomas/Grace wouldn't have been enough

we have LB's:
Gaines, Paul, DP, EJ, Armbrister, Corneilious, Terry, Blue then add Thomas and Grace we are good Fentress will only be a special teams player yes he got some burn but they wanted a redshirt out of Blue, Cookie might just mess around and get that waiver to play an extra year... you never know...12 LB's plus Fig makes 13... no need for him really except special teams at this moment... but this was out of the blue... I never expected this...

After reading his interview on another site, I really really really hope this kid has a great career here. You can tell how excited and thankful he is to be a 'Cane.

I love it when a Cane can run that fast with a gps ankle bracelot.

He rather flatten than tackle!

Salivating at the possibility of Figueroa and Thomas standing up on opposite sides of an odd-front. Eventually, you're talking about two 6'4, 235 backers who can rush the passer or drop into coverage with fluidity. The offense won't know what's coming.

We don't really know how big this kid is. I saw heights listed from 6'2" to 6'4". He was first team all met on a very good year for defensive players in D.C. That's according to one poster on a message board who claims to follow D.C. H.S. football. I live in the D.C. area but don't follow it very closely.

I'll believe he's in a class with Thomas when I see it. I've been watching recruiting from the mid 80's and my experience tells me that the south Florida kids seem to be a cut above. It's like when D.J. Williams came in. My early reports from fall practice were that Vilma was better than Williams when they both came in.

Back in the '80's we recruited Bukasa Kalombo from Herndon, VA. I think he was a first tream All-Met for the D.C. area and had 19 sacks his senior year. He hardly ever played at Miami.

They play pretty decent football in the D.C. area, including especially in northern Virginia, but whether this kid will be a starter at UM, we don't know yet. We were burned the last couple of years with kids we recruited from D.C. and Virginia. There was another kid from D.C. who committed and then de-committed, I think another LB. Then there was that LB from the Tidewater area of VA who spent a year or two in the program then left when Golden came in.

Big ups for a Bukasa Kalombo reference!!

kid looks a legit 6'4" IMO. he is pretty long but has great body control and short distance burst for his size.

I like him to go along with Thomas and Grace

We need a really good rush LB, hopefully this kid can make an impact next year.

So is it safe to say that most people here prefer Figueroa to Bond?

9210....

You see Gabe Terry this year?

Kis was unblockable at 200 pounds. Imagine what he will be like at 225 next year.

Not me. Bonds film is better to me. Also seems bond might be more of finished product for instant impact guy we need.

I like Bond better, but we need both. Bond can hop in immediately and contribute, and with Figueroa they can develop him and bring him along as fast he progresses.

I also like Bond better. He appears to have the pass rushing skills we need badly....I'm not sure if there's enough room to take him and this guy.

Based on his film, I'm not sure how we can be overly excited about the kid. Sure, it's cool to watch him destroy people on special teams, but that a good football player does not make. His frame and athleticism give us room for optimism about his upside as a DE, but otherwise, tough to jump up for joy for this type of kid, especially in what was supposed to be a small class of carefully selected elite kids.
