Jim Larrañaga, head coach of the Miami Hurricanes men's basketball team, recently spoke to the media about his team's recent success and the upcoming ACC tournament
Larrañaga expressed his gratitude for the support of the fans and the student body
"I know my players and coaches love that and I know I do too. Winning the game and then cutting down the Nets and having everybody out on the court, I told my players that's a memory that will last a lifetime."
He also acknowledged the challenges of the upcoming ACC tournament.
"As everybody knows and I've told the players, now it’s a sprint, everybody's got the same record, we're all zero and zero, and the message is win and advance, lose and go home. We've got to be at our best every single day."
Larrañaga also discussed the changes in the program over the years, particularly in terms of perception and attention from the media. He emphasized the importance of his players as representatives of the program
"Perception is reality. I think our players represent us so well. Anybody who engages with them from the media always raves about them afterwards, and everybody loves a winner."
He also expressed his desire for the team to continue their success and establish a strong basketball tradition at Miami.
"We want to be one of those teams that the basketball tradition is as good as anybody in the country."
Larrañaga was asked about the team's mentality going into the tournament, particularly in comparison to last year when the team had limited postseason experience.
"We have six new players, that's half our team, so these guys are going through it for the first time at Miami. What we explained to them is every team that we will face, whether it's in the ACC tournament or in the NCAA tournament, is really good. Every game is winning and advance, lose and go home. You've got to be ready for every opponent."
