Kiko Mauigoa: “Virginia Tech has a really good team, 2-2 is very misleading.”

Kiko Mauigoa played a huge role in holding USF’s fast-paced running game to 62 yards on 32 attempts (1.9 YPC). He met with reporters to discuss the upcoming game against Virginia Tech:

On Virginia Tech: They have a really good team. 2-2 is very misleading. They almost won against Rutgers. They lost by three points, but they’ve got a really good team. They’ve got a really good offense. The quarterback is very good with his feet, and the running back very explosive, too. So we’ve got a challenge this week. This is conference play and we're excited for the opportunity.

On striking a balance between celebrating and not getting penalized: When it comes to playing football, you’ve always got to have composure. You can have fun at the same time, but can't be overdoing it. We've seen a couple of times we got selfish and got some penalties. So for us, it's good to have fun, but always have a limit to it. It’s putting the team first, and having awareness. For us as leaders, we’ve gotta emphasize that on the team. Everybody’s doing a pretty good job putting the team first.

On keeping their edge: We always have the goal and mindset to dominate every single play. We have a standard that we’ve got to dominate and we’ve got to win our one-on-ones. If we see ourselves not doing what our standard is, we gotta check ourselves. We hold each other accountable on that.

It happens on Greentree first before it happens on the game field. So it’s having the mindset to dominate. Our coaches have done a pretty good job emphasizing that throughout the whole week.

On his decision to come back: Before I even made a decision to come back, I felt like this was the best decision for me. Being able to come back and be part of something very special and be part of a group of men that are willing to pour into this program and make each other better and hold each other accountable is what I've yearned for and what I've been missing. So just being able to come back and play football with these guys, it's a blessing. No, I have no regrets on having that decision to come back.

They aren't good but they are the type of ******** to embarrass the ACC and ruin the hype for this game then come in to the Rock and play their best game of the year after messing up against Rutgers and Vandy.
I hope we get their best game, we need it. Facing and overcoming adversity is the only way to climb to the top of the mountain. We got USF's best game and still rolled them. Go Canes.

This is the mindset that has been missing for years, nearly 2 decades actually. Accountability starts from the top and permeates throughout the team. Glad to see they aren't taking VT or anything for granted. We roll by 30+ points on Friday

WTF does he mean im glad I came back ? seriously thats not something I want to hear from any of our core players. So is he going to be looking again at the end of the year. how did yall not see that and kind of go wtf.
Bro what are you pressed about? He’s been playin since 2021, he’s a senior. He was draft eligible last year and he chose to come back for his senior year. Calm yo *** down.

Vtech went to ot with Vandy, lost by 3 vs rutgers had 3 turnovers and a safety. They get off to slow starts but they are a solid acc team that we shouldn’t take lightly. Must play a complete game

He considered going to the league but opted to return for his Sr season and is glad he did. He wasn't referring to the transfer portal if that's how you took it.

This stood out to me as him saying the culture wasn't there last year. I would like to know what has changed to see that growth? Hopefully not JUST Cam, but something more sustainable has been put in place.

We were 4-0 last season this time and had played a better team already. If these guys aren’t taking this game seriously they’re not the team we think they are. Love the interview but it’s all talk right now. Go out and dominate a limited one dimensional team like we should, and don’t ever let a GT happen again.

Glad they are taking it seriously.

VT is trash though.
Easy with "trash" comments. They were highly talked about preseason due to having the largest number of returning starters and were SUPPOSED TO BE a very solid team. I still have visions of Va Tech QB's converting by running on 4th and 18 .... they have done it in the past too many times. Prepare and dominate ... then we can talk about their level.
