use tucker as our short yardage back ...no?

Great job as usual.

I think it's time to gray going as the third back.

JMO, but I think 'Chocs' relatively lack of experience at RB is probably whats holding this back. He had problems with getting hand-offs in camp. But regardless, I think this development you mentioned is coming sooner rather than later

Also wanted to mention that I like the physical possibilities that Walter Tucker gives UM at fullback. I think he's an explosive athlete and I'd like to see him used more in this offense

+1 on Tucker. His hands catching out of the backfield is a big plus we have not had in some time. This offense in a pro set could do wonders.

Hope so. I'd kill for a Quad Hill back there.

Gus Edwards is just a constant reminder that Alex Collins got away.

With a side note and asterisk that Sony Michael is also in a Bulldog uniform. I close my eyes and imagine Sony, Collins, and Kirkland on our offense and my brain melts. Cot dam and **** the street agents.

We lost all 3 of those kids due to no one's fault but ours. We weren't even that high on Kirkland

I have to disagree on Collins. We couldn't have recruited him any harder than we did.

To each their own. We've recruited a lot of top kids the hardest with the same results. In a case like Juwon Young, it pays off. In other cases it doesn't matter.

That's one of my gripes with this staff: they don't do a good job of just flat out stepping on peoples throats and burying them. This team under Golden always seems to let teams hang around for much longer then they should. Some will argue it's execution( or lack thereof), I'd argue it's just as much about philosophy and the mentality of the head coach in many ways.

I mirror these sentiments. One thing that we should be doing is putting teams away early. We've been terrible at that among other things.

whenever this happens people complain about the team scoring too quickly

also it assumes that there are drives in which the coaches try not to score which..... whatever. i'm sure every coach on the staff would love to be up 28-0 at the half of every game.

We recruited him hard. We just didn't recruit him effectively enough. We got beat.

Coley is a disaster on returns. He is scared to death. Return men have to be a little nuts and fearless. We've got too many explosive athletes on this team to not have someone better than Coley for the return work.

we just gonna forget about gatewood and his involvement of collins recruitment? ight...

We'll see how big this win is as Duke gets into ACC Coastal play.
I'll take it anyway.
We couldnt afford to lose to these guys, just like we cant afford to lose to GT, NC, and VT down the road if we have a shot at getting to the ACCCG. None of those teams play FSU on the other side. Only GT plays Clemson.

I think he's an ideal guy, short, squat, looks explosive and can get up in there real quickly with good pad level. Certainly a better option than 'the Bus'....

I'd love to see what Tucker brings in the passing game as an outlet receiver and check downs....

Great stuff as usual from you Steve. I most definitely agree about the staff not having a killer instinct. It seems as though Al coaches as if he was constantly terrified of making a mistake and the kids play seems to mirror that unfortunately. For some strange reason Al seems much more comfortable backing into a win than he is claiming it with authority.

In terms of the offense I agree that the spread formation may be our best look but therein lies the conundrum Coley faces. Our strength is or should be running the ball and we are very effective running from under center but Kaaya is not as effective from that formation at this point. Kaaya is much better in the shotgun but the run game seems to lack consistency in that set. The underlying issue with the offense seems to be that we lack a solid foundation. Consequently we are too schizophrenic in our approach which destroys continuity and momentum and drives bog down.

Many have expressed the desire to run the ball more and while I agree somewhat I dont know if our OL is consistent enough to sustain run heavy drives. I think we can expect to see a good amount of cover 2 going forward.

Coley needs to figure out what our identity is on offense and narrow the scope of his attack in terms of formation variation. At least for the time being. The offense isn't able to get into a grove because of it.
