The Hurricanes continue to make inroads in Georgia, hosting Jonesboro safety Cortez Redding on an official visit this weekend. A teammate of Miami DB commit Jontavius Wyman, Redding is a 6-foot, 175 pound four-star. He’s previously visited unofficially with Wyman, but the pair aren’ a “package deal” with both having independent recruitments. With that being said, Redding could end up following Wyman to the U. Here’s what Redding told me for CanesInSight following his visit:
Overall recap of his visit:
“Coach [Etheridge] and coach [Harris], of course I spent the most time with them. The highlights was hanging with the players. All the big names down here, just being down to earth and actually, spending time with you and telling you how the whole college life works in Miami.
“It's just a great place, and I can see myself here.”
“Coach Zac, Coach Will, Coach Cristobal: all good guys. They all have track records of having good players. I feel all of them actually know what they're talking about, so I believe in them guys. Miami made a good impression for me.”
On the staffs pitch to him:
“Just talking about my techniques and some flaws that I may have in my game. They just show me how they could make them better, showing how they could turn me from a high school player to be elite enough to go to the NFL one day.”
“I don't want nobody to lie to me about nothing. So, having coaches who actually care enough to tell you, some things that they will improve for you, some things that they noticed that can be fixed or it could be improved, a lot of coaches don't do that. You don't want no coaches to just sit in your face and just tell you all the good stuff about you because then you're gonna think you’re best player in the world.”
On the impact Miami commit/highschool teammate Jontavius Wyman has on him:
“[Wyman’s] pitch to me was just telling me how fun it was for him, how he enjoyed the place.”
“[Miami] definitely lived up to all the expectations that he said, it's a great place to be at. I had fun, a lot of fun down here, so it was a great place.”
On his recruiting timeline:
“So my decision day will be July 25th. We have a media day for my school and stuff, so July 25th would be my decision day.”
“Miami is definitely a top school for me right now, the other two are NC State and Ole Miss.”
Deciding factors in his recruitment:
“Definitely be somewhere where you feel loved by everybody. Somewhere you can see yourself outside of football, a place that has a real good city that you can live in outside of football. It's not just meant for just football and stuff ‘cause that football got to end someday, so you gotta be able to put your cleats down.”
“And then it's like a staff that can develop me, my body and my mind just to eventually play on Sundays 'cause that's always the first goal to get to the NFL, so a staff that can do that for me, that would be the main deciding factor.”
