Miami will face the Florida State Seminoles tonight at approximately 7:00 p.m. Eastern Time at Hard Rock Stadium. Here are four things you need to know about FSU's starting quarterback Ashton Daniels
Second leading rusher for FSU
Daniels has been a major part of the Florida State rushing attack. So far this season, he has recorded a total of 323 yards on the ground across 70 carries. He has already set an FSU quarterback rushing record, recording over 10 rushing touchdowns this season--the most by any FSU quarterback. Daniels' best rushing outing was against the Virginia Cavaliers, where he recorded 136 yards across 17 carries and five touchdowns.
He will be a running threat with the Hurricanes' defense looking to contain him tonight.
He has nearly more picks than passing touchdowns
Despite his rushing record, he has not been as efficient through the air. So far this season, he has a total of eight touchdowns through the air, but he has also thrown seven interception, which is tied for the second-most in the country. The Hurricanes' front seven needs to get in the backfield and rattle him because he does not play well under pressure.
He's a fifth-year senior with plenty of experience.
Daniels has been in college football for five seasons and has participated in 43 career games since arriving in 2022. Coming out of high school, he was a three-star prospect who originally signed with the Stanford Cardinal. After playing two seasons there, he transferred to Auburn, where he played in four games before getting benched. He then took his talents to Florida State, which is where he currently plays.
He has struggled with accuracy in multiple games.
Again, he has struggled passing, completing only 59.1 percent of his throws. In the ACC opener against SMU, Daniels completed a season-low 52%. He's not the most efficient quarterback in the country--the complete opposite of Miami signal-caller Darian Mensah, who holds the best completion percentage in the country. At Auburn, it was the same old story for Daniels, completing a career-low 57 percent of his passes.
