Four-star DE Asharri Charles recaps official visit with Miami, 'I definitely see myself as a Hurricane'
Miami was able to host one of the top defensive edge rushers in the state in the form of Venice product Asharri Charles. The 6-foot-2, 230-pound edge is well renowned for his high motor, but his combo rush ability has consistently turned heads wherever he’s been. He plans to wait until his season to make a decision, which is shaping up to be a battle between the “big three” in the Sunshine State between Miami, Florida, and Florida State. I was able to catch up with Charles following his official visit and here’s what he had to say:
Overall takeaways from his visit:
“The visit went good. The vibe was always, Miami needs me, they want me to play. I love it here.”
“I feel pretty good about it. I'm just glad to be here, blessed to be here. I definitely see myself playing as a Miami Hurricane.”
On how Miami stands out:
“They’ve been telling me to come home.”
“This time they brought my whole family and if a school really wants you, they're gonna bring your whole family. They came out here and they brought my whole family, that showed me they’re real.”
“Real family oriented. Everybody will work with you, even if they don't even know you they still meet you, greet you. It’s a great environment to put myself around.”
On how he fits into the defensive scheme:
“They showed me their schemes and –[Hetherman’s] a good d-coordinator, he knows his stuff – I love his schemes as It's simple down to where you ain't gotta think too much, just play vertical, and then they like to set up one on ones for their best pass rush guys.”
On his top schools following his official visits:
“The school’s that are standing out: Missouri, Florida, Miami, and Florida State. Those would be my top schools.”
On what would be the reason he chooses Miami:
“I’d say since they've been the most consistent. They are always keeping in touch, they always want to know what I'm doing and stuff like that.”
