Miami is coming off a loss to the Virginia Cavaliers on Saturday afternoon, falling 86-83 in a game that went down to the wire. Now the Hurricanes turn the page to the Florida State Seminoles men’s basketball, and this won’t be an easy bounce-back spot.
Florida State is playing its best basketball of the season right now. After starting conference play 0-5, the Seminoles have flipped the switch and are suddenly looking like a legit Quad 1 type of team.
They come into Tuesday on a three-game winning streak. It may only say three in the win column, but it’s been impressive: a 92-69 blowout of Virginia Tech, an 80-72 win over Boston College, and a 70-65 road upset over Clemson on Saturday.
And even before the streak, Florida State wasn’t getting run out of the gym. The Seminoles lost to Virginia 61-58 in a tight one. They fell to SMU Mustangs 83-80. They lost to top-ranked Duke Blue Devis 91-87. They even beat Miami earlier this season, 65-63.
So no, this isn’t just some average 14-13 team. Florida State has been battle-tested, hanging around with, and sometimes beating, the top teams in the ACC.
Robert McCray Jr. leads the way for the Seminoles, averaging 15.7 points per game in 28 minutes a night.
If Miami wants to respond the right way after Saturday’s loss, it’s going to have to bring its A-game. This is not a night to ease into it.
