The Hurricanes hosted an impressive list of visitors for Thursday’s spring practice, with multiple five-star prospects in attendance. One of those highly-touted recruits was Michigan native Dakota Guerrant, a 6-foot-1 wideout from Detroit who visited for gameday last fall. Sought after by some of the top-schools in the country, Guerrant remarked about the depth in Miami’s receiving room and his growing relationship with Miami’s coaching staff. Here’s what the No.2 wideout in the country had to say to me following his first on-campus visit on Thursday:

Overall reaction from his visit:

“I mean, it's great.”

“The campus isn’t big so you’re really going to be detailed with your classes, the degree and connections you’ll have is crazy.”

“On the field, the receivers get so many opportunities to play, like, Coach KB [Beard] rotates so much to where its up to you to make plays, like Mali.”

On watching Miami’s young group of wideouts in practice:

“You want to have guys around you that can make you better.”

“I feel like Ohio State with that receiving group back in the day — Garrett Wilson, Jaxon Smith- Njigba — they all learned from each other. Just having amazing guys in front of you that you can learn from, I feel that’s great for my development.”

“I talk to Mali a lot.”

On his relationship with the coaching staff:

“I’ve been heavily recruited by coach Beard for sure, I talk to him all the time. I feel like he’s a great coach, he’s real with me. He’s gonna be able to develop me and get me to be the best player and man I can be.”

“Coach Cristobal is like ‘man, I need you here, I got to have you”, he’s cool and laid back, chilling, cracking jokes.”

On what he saw from this second visit specifically:

“I saw the spring practice which was big for me.”

“Seeing how practice goes and how the players play, why or why not they’re getting opportunities.”

On schools contending in his recruitment process and the timeline:

“Ohio State, Michigan, Virginia, Texas A&M, and Miami.”

“I just came from Texas A&M on Tuesday and I’m here until tomorrow. April 11th I go to Oregon, then I got to set up the visit for Ohio State.”

“I will be setting up my official visit with Miami soon for sure.”

“I’ll commit in July.”

Love that he reflected on the non-football superlatives. Not enough emphasis on that nowadays.
