Film Room: Evidence Njoku

Film Room: Evidence Njoku

Peter Ariz
Peter Ariz
If you aren't familiar by now, Evidence Njoku is the younger brother of Miami Hurricanes tight end David Njoku.

Evidence is a 2017 commitment and will come to Coral Gables as a wide receiver. In comparison to his brother, Evidence seems to be a bit lankier than David at this stage. Both are similarly long striders, but Evidence has shown better top end speed at this stage. David's stature is freakish for his athleticism, but Evidence continues to grow into his body. He is about 6-4, 195 pounds right now and will benefit greatly from a college weight program. A redshirt year is likely.

A couple of things to note before you watch these clips...

1) This is only three games-worth of highlights from THIS SEASON. That is all he has available on his HUDL page.

2) He transferred to a new school over the summer. It seems like his route tree is extremely limited right now -- but that is not uncommon for receivers at the high school level.

3) It's tough to completely grasp what Miami is getting in him because we need to see more. But what I see in these clips is a big, coordinated receiver with an elite catch radius. Weight room, weight room, weight room. That will be his key.

I know Winslow came here a little bit bigger, but do you see a potential move to te?

I see a guy that catches the ball with his hands (!!!) and uses his height to his advantage. He seems to have a quick get off for his size. Weight room work will make all the difference. Good addition IMO.

I will take any member of that family after seeing the way his older brother continues to develop.

Do you see how skinny this dude is? I doubt he is 195. He looks 185 to me. If his brother didnt move from wr to te would you still ask that question?

Gator Hatar: You took the words right out of my mouth. I was going to highlight the same thing. Although this is limited film, he uses his hands the entire time on these highlights...even in the intermediate routes. That's the most important to me, followed by using your physical frame. He could be a sleeper as a great pick up by this staff.

Not to be captain obvious, but I could see a move to TE if he continues to grow. If he is 180 I think it could be tough. I wonder what he eats, how he works out with weights, and what kind of conditioning he does? All that will contribute to his spot imo.

If Golden was still coach, kid would weigh 260 by next fall.

we need some guards!

Very impressed by his physical tools and how fluid and natural he seems. He seems to be a natural receiver that catches the ball with his hands and obviously uses his height to his advantage. Pete mentioned how a college weight program will be key and I agree with this. What really stands out to me is his frame. He looks as though he could fill out with muscle and carry it with ease.

I forgot Evidence's exact height but I see a prospect who could eventually carry 210+ with ease while maintaining his speed and athleticism. Huge upside. I love this pickup.

I see a kid who when done will catch a lot of balls here once he put's on 20-30 of muscle and polished his game. High 3 low 4 star type kid IMO.

And be our quickest DT.....
