ESPN Projects Miami PG Tre Donaldson As Second-Round Pick In NBA Draft

Day one of the NBA Draft has been complete here in Brooklyn, New York; a few years ago, the NBA made the decision to separate the second round of the NBA Draft from the first. So now, the Draft will pick back up tonight at 8 p.m. Eastern Time.

ESPN released their second-round mock draft selections. Miami Hurricanes starting point guard Tre Donaldson made the selection. ESPN projects Donaldson selected as the No. 52 pick by the Los Angeles Clippers, potentially teaming up with former Hurricane Jordan Miller.

This past season with the Miami, Donaldson was the Hurricanes' leading scorer (16.4 PPG). He was the Hurricanes' reliable scoring target when the 'Canes needed a bucket -- he was there. Donaldson dished out 5.7 assists per game, while grabbing 3.6 rebounds and shooting 45.4% from the field.

Prior to Miami, Donaldson played in all 37 games for Michigan during his junior season, where he averaged 11.3 points, grabbed 3.5 rebounds, and dished out 4.1 assists per game over 31.1 minutes, while shooting 43.3% from the field and 37.5% from three-point range.

Strengths: Donaldson has good strength and explosiveness for a smaller guard, helping him get into the teeth of defenses and make plays. He's a physical defender at the point of attack.

Weaknesses: His decision-making and shot selection can be wild at times. He has an average shooting profile for a higher-volume guard.

The verdict: Donaldson is a plus athlete with a football background who showed all-around improvement after transferring to Miami. He's a solid two-way contract candidate, particularly if he can keep making strides with his ball control and playmaking.
