Miami dipped back into the transfer portal and came away with an offensive lineman who could end up being a nice under-the-radar pickup.

East Tennessee State OL Johnathan Cline announced he’s transferring to Miami, giving the Hurricanes more depth and experience up front. Cline played his college ball at ETSU.

Cline was part of the 2023 recruiting class, which was Mario Cristobal’s first full year recruiting at Miami. The Hurricanes were involved, offering him, but coming out of high school, Cline ended up choosing UCF. After his time with the Knights, he transferred to East Tennessee State, where he continued to develop and get on the field.

Clien is a 6-foot-4, 305-pound offensive lineman, This past season at ETSU, he was a 2025 preseason All-SoCon 2nd team.

Nice little portal depth piece here.

I remember us recruiting him some. Nearly posted his journey the other day, wild we came back to take him
Any backstory? Looks like maybe he never saw the field at UCF?

Have known him and his family for about 15 years now. We met them on an annual vacation trip in Panama City Beach and still go every year. He hasn’t been the last few years since he’s been at school. I talked to some people at ETSU when he was looking and it ended up working out.

He started at LG here and he’s strong as an ox. Grown man and he’s wanted to be here since he was in HS and ended up at UCF. I’m not sure he belongs at this level as a starter but we’re gonna find out. He will definitely work for it, though.

No that was Madden Sanker who went to Louisville.

Cline never got an actual offer but Mario/Highsmith sat him and his dad down at the BBQ and gave him a ton of praise and said we'll be watching the development but we just don't have a spot right now. He wanted to commit and be developed by Mario/Mirabal badly. Could have been a PWO and almost did but got the UCF offer.
