The Canes landed a surging defensive tackle prospect with the commitment of Chaminade DT Donta Simpson.

The 16-year-old Simpson is currently listed at 6'4, 295, but may be closer to 310 by the time he enrolls at Miami. After showing flashes as a young-for-his-grade junior, Simpson has dominated the offseason circuit. He showed well at the Under Armour Camp and put on a show at Miami's recent camp, outperforming older and more higher-ranked players to earn a scholarship offer. He was previously committed to Maryland.

Simpson made 43 tackles (19.5 TFL), 7.5 sacks, 3 FF, 2 FR and a took a pick to the house for the state champions. He is the 19th commitment in the 2025 class, joining QB Luke Nickel, RB Girard Pringle, TE Brock Schott, TE Luka Gilbert, OT Demetrius Campbell, OT Jaden Wilkerson, OG TK Muex, OG Max Buchanan, OC SJ Alofaituli, WR Daylyn Upshaw, DE Herbert Scroggins, LB Gavin Nix, LB Elijah Melendez, LB Ezekiel Marcelin, CB Chris Ewald, Jr., CB Jaboree Antoine, DB Amari Wallace and DB Tim Merritt.

This is a guy I really liked at Under Armour. He looked like a baby in the face and won his reps pretty easily.

Junior film is OK but I think this is betting on the come based on age, growth and offseason performance.

How do you compare him at the same age to Ahmad Moten?

So basically a project.. That's fine, not everyone is ready in their first or second year. Wish more young men would see it that way as that position is big boy football and hard work patience will pay dividends down the road. Hope it works out for him as it'll then work out for us..
