Diaz on the defense

Diaz on the defense

Problem2

Love the "looks like the Canes again" as the biggest compliment comment. I can't stand "The U" branding. We haven't won diddlysquat as the U. We dominated as the C-A-N-E-S CANES! Hope they coach like Canes and play like Canes.

Go Canes!

The U is iconic..not just a "brand'

Icons are usually winners. The Canes not only won, but dominated. There is a reason they made 2 30for30 on the Canes. Like I said we haven't won anything since we became the U. "It's a Canes thing you wouldn't understand" defined our dominance, not its a U thing you wouldn't understand....

As always...

Go Canes!

I'm excited to know there will be Penetration in the backfield. It was painful to watch a unknown back like the kid from Cinci not get touched until he reached the second level. Horrible angle tackling, no wrapping, confusion etc......anything is a major upgrade from that $#:+!!!!!!

Explain to me: If you eliminate freelancing or using instincts, aren't you restricting aggressiveness?

Can't have 11 guys going 100% aggressive. Someone has to be the safety net when the front 7's aggression fails, and if your last line of defense is freelancing instead of holding his assignment down and trusting the people in front of him, big plays become TD's instead of just big plays.

That's what got diaz in trouble at Texas. He was too aggressive on D and it led to giving up big gains. He has scaled it back since texas and is not as aggressive.

I think having a elite d-line coach like kool will balance diaz out too. I think he will trust kool enough to allow the front 4 a lot of times to put the pressure on instead of blitzing LBs.

Freelancing, using instincts and playing aggressive have nothing to do with one another.
Unless you think that playing aggressive means players doing whatever the ****k they feel like.

Nope...In this day and age, instinctive freelancing causes way too much confusion and hesitation at the collegiate level. They barely learn how to do one or two asignments properly you don't want them to over think. That's why our D always looked lost out there giving up ground to all levels of comption. Read and react defense works better in a more complex NFL Scheme at the next level. Imo

Was talking to my boy yesterday...and he's cool with a couple of the players.

He says the kids are super excited about this new defense. They love the coaching staff. Said it's a night and day difference. Diaz is a high energy dude, intense, involved, etc. No more of that read-and-react bullsh!t. He says the new staff is awesome with a diverse group of characters. Banda is a cool dude. Kool is an intense technician. Dugans is a lot of people's favorite. Cooler than the other side of the pillow.

It's believed that AQM will be the main one who wakes up in this new defense. Apparently there's nobody on defense with his level of talent/ability. He's a freak. Also, Willis is an animal. "Unblockable" was the word used to describe him.

Now I'm over here thinking about a D-line of...

AQM
Willis
Moten
Thomas

OK and Bennie Blades says something along the lines of the name is C-A-N-E-S Canes. My main point being we haven't been very good at all since being branded the U. When we were just the Canes we won and a lot. I'd like to get back to that, winning that is. If you have watched our team play over the last 30yrs+ you would see the difference. I guess, "It's a Canes thing, you wouldn't understand" might apply here.

You think he is better than Norton?

Moten has some traits that could make him dominant. Very good athlete and he's long. This is basically the story for our top 8 defensive linemen. If Kool reaches them (resume says he will), they'll all improve by leaps and bounds.

Our 2 deep front 7 has me optimistic. I think Coaches Diaz and Kool will have the guys playing fast, aggressive and tough. If Banda can coach like he recruits and makes connections with kids we should be in good shape on the back end. Throw in a possible win in the JC Jackson sweepstakes and we may have ourselves a rabid defense.

Go Canes!

dude we were branded the U when jimmy took over **** even schnelly said he wanted to make the U a brand when he took over, people were calling us that for years, even going with your point we were the U with those early 2000 teams and we won with them so yea we have been winning since being called the U, and lol at using the not understanding the canes thing

I agree, free lancing at the college level means you are thinking too much. Imo Diaz wants to let them play free without thinking about too many responsibilities...with a simplified scheme . Attack style D is out to dictate what the offense does..... not read and react to what they do.
