Commitments
At the moment, Miami has one defensive tackle commit in Keith Bryant of Atlantic Delray. Bryant was an early Canes commitment, who has taken visits to other schools, but remains very solid. There are some possible concerns about his grades, but he is as strong as they come commitment-wise.
On the field, Bryant is a handful. While he isn't a mammoth space-eater, he has great quickness, feet, and gets after the QB. He has a relentless attitude that is reminiscent of the great Hurricane pass-rushers of the past. Last season, he had 13.5 sacks and 17 TFL, while leading his team in tackles.
Targets
Maquedius Bain: The Florida State commit from University School is the top tackle on the board. He has been committed to FSU since last year, but that isn't exactly a strong verbal. As has been the case for a while, the Canes lead. Miami coaches have made him a top priority and he has visited campus multiple times unofficially. He was also at the spring game with teammate Jordan Cunningham, who is one of Miami's top targets at receiver.
Bain is very raw on the field, but his athleticism is off the charts. He is about 6'3, 310 and moves really well for his size. Out of the possible choices at tackle, Bain probably has the most upside, but at the same time he is the biggest risk because he needs a lot of polishing. He plays basketball as well as football, which shows some of that athletic ability.
Jaynard Bostwick: Bostwick is probably the most complete player at this point between him, Bryant, and Bain. At 6'4, 290 he has ideal size for his position. He can probably play a hybrid DE/DT role at the next level as well. He had 75 tackles last season, which is a high number for a defensive lineman.
Bostwick grew up a Canes' fan and Miami still leads, but Florida has come into the picture recently. He visited there unofficially in June, and is going back next week for a camp. I still expect him to wind up a Cane.
Dante Phillips: The 2012 UF signee is the wild card right now. After not qualifying for UF, he is now searching for a home. He flirted around with UM late in the process, but nothing ever came of it. For the past week or so, Golden and staff have been doing some background research on his situation before deciding whether or not to offer.
There has also been some speculation that Phillips can play offensive tackle in college. He has the perfect frame to transition there, but he would need a lot of work and a redshirt year.
He is reportedly visiting this weekend.
