Darian Mensah given odds to win the 2026 Heisman Trophy

Not even two weeks have been shaved off the calendar for the 2026 season, and the Heisman conversation has already started.

The odds for next year’s Heisman Trophy are out, and Miami’s new quarterback Darian Mensah is already getting serious respect. According to our friends at FanDuel Sportsbook, Mensah opens with the sixth-best odds to win the Heisman Trophy for the 2026–27 season.

That’s notable company.

Mensah is one of five quarterbacks listed in the top six, with the lone non-QB being Ohio State wide receiver Jeremiah Smith. For a quarterback who hasn’t taken a snap yet in Coral Gables, it’s a loud early signal about how the national market views his upside with two years under his belt in College Football.

Here’s a look at FanDuel’s current top six Heisman odds:

CJ Carr (Notre Dame) | +750
Josh Hoover (Indiana) | +1000
Jeremiah Smith (Ohio State, WR) | +1300

Miami fans won’t complain about being in the conversation this early. Now it’s on Mensah to turn hype into production once the Hurricanes kickoff its season on Labor Day against Stanford.

Because of name recognition alone if he has a decent season and Texas is good, he'll be in NY. Heisman has become a popularity contest

1. He's having foot surgery during the offseason.
2. He's not at the top of his conference for 2025.

He's not even in the top 25 for all of FBS for 2025.

Yeah, Sophomore Slump is a thing for a reason but if Dawson is our OC in 2026, it’s basically a foregone conclusion that Toney will eat

But if Toney has that type of season, probably means Mensah did too so he would probably get the nod

He improved quite a bit over the second half of the season.

In my opinion, he’s talented and is going to have a really good year.

Possible, but with having surgery, and other QBs coming back who were already better, isn't making him the frontrunner a bit premature?

Got a lot better as the year went on. Was really good in the bowl game. He’s not gonna put up massive passing numbers but will flirt with 4000 total yards next year and 35-ish TDs. Sark scares me tho. I’m not sure I trust them to win 11 games which is what it usually takes to win the Heisman.

I absolutely expect Mensah to be in NYC in December.
