Every day during portal season, Pete and I track player movement on the CanesInSight Podcast. Below is a summary of yesterday's movement and discussion:

Auburn

Byron Brown, QB (6-3, 215, USF)
Brown followed Alex Golesh from USF to Auburn, giving the Tigers an immediate starter who already knows the system.

DMoney said Brown “is a big, strong, athletic player” and added that physically “he’ll be just fine in the SEC.” Pete pushed back on the idea that Auburn forced out Deuce Knight, saying there had been “talk about him entering the portal for weeks” and that Brown “is their guy because he understands the offense.”

After watching Brown live against Miami, DMoney said the fit was obvious. He called him “one of the most physically impressive players we saw all year,” noting that he “stood tall, took hits, and made throws. He looked the part.”

Missouri

Austin Simmons, QB (6-2, 210, Ole Miss)
Missouri landed one of the most talented quarterbacks in the portal in Simmons, setting up a competition with returning starter Matt Zollers.

Pete called it “a really good fit with Drinkwitz,” while DMoney framed it as Missouri setting up “two talented quarterbacks that aren’t costing you a fortune. Let the best man win.”

Pete was more direct about Simmons’ role. “I don’t think he’s going there to compete. I think he’s going there to be the guy,” he said, adding that Missouri “will spend to surround him with weapons.”

DMoney compared Simmons’ play style to Tua Tagovailoa, saying the “left-handed release, how the ball comes out, how he moves — it reminds me of Tua,” while also noting Simmons is still “only going into his third year” and will continue to grow physically.

Florida State

Tre Wisner, RB (6-1, 194, Texas — 597 yards, 4.6 YPC, 3 TDs in 2025)
FSU added Wisner after Texas reset its underperforming running back room.

DMoney said Wisner is “a good player and an experienced player who played well in big games,” but questioned the value. “If Florida State is putting a lot of their budget into a veteran back who isn’t super dynamic, I’m not sure what the play is.”

Pete called it a reasonable move in a vacuum but said the offensive line still defines everything. “They need guys who can make plays in the run game, but I want to see what they do up front.”

Desir Twins, DTs (Norland HS → Portal)
Florida State’s most productive young defensive linemen entered the portal.

DMoney said their move inside allowed them to exceed their high school projections. “At defensive tackle they were very hard to deal with. They’re plus athletes inside and carry the weight well. These are the guys you build around.”

It's possible that they will leverage their Portal entry for a hefty raise, as previous FSU players have done under Mike Norvell. “If they’re playing and producing and you’re willing to pay them, of course you listen.”

Amaree Williams, EDGE
Williams, a reclassified 2025 blue-chip athlete, also left Tallahassee.

DMoney explained the dilemma. “Either they come back for more money, which hurts the budget, or they leave and you lose talent. Either way, Florida State is in trouble.”

Ashton Daniels, QB (Stanford → Auburn → FSU)
FSU added Daniels as QB1.

Pete said the move points toward conservatism. “If he’s coming in to start after being a backup on a team that didn’t have a quarterback, they’re telling you they want to run the ball and survive.”

DMoney added that it may raise the floor but limits the ceiling. “I would have paid Deuce Knight and built the whole thing around him.”

Indiana

Brock Schott, ATH (Miami)
Schott transferred home to Indiana.

DMoney said the move “makes sense” based on background and fit. Both noted that he has a knowledge of Miami's playbook if Indiana faces Miami in the championship game. Pete added, “If they ask him questions, he’ll have some answers.” Both agreed there was still a question as to whether he was an offensive or defensive player.

Kansas

Jaden Harris, DB (Miami → Georgia → Kansas)
Harris transferred to Kansas after receiving limited reps with Georgia.

DMoney said Harris has physical tools and now needs reps. Pete added, “Go to Kansas and play. Don’t just wear the uniform.”

Louisville

Daylen Russell, DT (Miami)
Russell transferred to Louisville after playing limited snaps for the Canes.

DMoney said it “makes sense for him and for Louisville,” noting the program’s long-standing interest dating back to high school.

Alabama

Hollywood Smothers, RB (5-11, 195, NC State — 939 yards, 6 TDs, 5.9 YPC in 2025)
Alabama scored big in landing Smothers, who led the ACC in rushing yards per game.

DMoney said Alabama “needs to run the ball better” and called the Charlotte native “a very good back.”

Oklahoma

Trell Harris, WR (Virginia — 59 catches, 847 yards, 5 TDs in 2025)
Harris gives Oklahoma a downfield receiver who can play outside.

DMoney said Harris “made plays over people and down the field” and called it “a real loss for the ACC.”

USC

Terrell Anderson, WR (6-2, 204, NC State — 39 catches, 629 yards, 5 TDs in 2025)
USC added Anderson to replace departed NFL prospects Makai Lemon and Ja'Kobi Lane.

DMoney said USC “needed a big-play outside receiver” and that Anderson “fits exactly what they’re missing.”

Cal

Ian Strong, WR (6-3, 211, Rutgers — 52 catches, 764 yards, 5 TDs in 2025)
Strong joins Jaron Keawe Sagapolutele at Cal after Rutgers paid big money to retain his running mate, KJ Duff.

DMoney said Strong “is a contested-catch monster” and predicted he could be “one of the leaders in the ACC in receiving next year.”

Arizona State

Omarion Miller, WR (Colorado)
After Jordan Tyson went from Colorado to Arizona State to the NFL, the Sun Devils signed Omarion Miller with the hopes of repeating history.

DMoney said ASU “is going to feed him and pay him,” calling it a direct one-for-one replacement.

Cutter Boley, QB (Kentucky)
Boley joins Miller in Tempe.

DMoney said Boley is “a big, athletic, multisport quarterback” now paired with “a true No. 1 receiver,” giving him a great chance to develope under Coach Dillingham.

I believe it’s very telling that we’re getting recaps on other teams portal news, but not Miami.

I think Mario’s got this whole thing on lockdown and does not want any news leaking until after our game

I’m not believing Schott offers anything new other than what’s already on tape. It would also be foolish of Cig & Co to think we won’t be adding new wrinkles/plays post-Schott. I would worry about snap counts though, but we could use that to our advantage to draw them offsides. ALL SPECULATION THOUGH.

Losing Schott sucks. Portal is a big time depth and development killer. But portal gives and taketh away so is what it is.

Might as well not recruit top 200 players from Indiana while Cig is there - he’s about to lock down the top 3-4 players coming out of his state.

Hopefully soon you need a couple full pages just for Miami signings…

Gaby just posted that we are in good shape with a coveted transfer....anyone know who it is?

Don’t want any distractions at this point. You can just let me know that spots are getting filled at the U and that will make me happy. Announce it after we hoist up the CFP Championship trophy on the night of 1/19. Until then, keep it under wraps!
