Get used to it. Every year we will lose someone to the $EC.

The hope is we go at least 33% signing rate for the top guys and maybe 50% when we are consistently rolling. We can't keep striking out like last season or the vultures will keep coming.
I will never get use to striking out against these hick *** schools. They are all pathetic and while football maybe above all in the SEC, Miami is the fkin Mecca.

It aint about bags, its about real loot n the league. The SEC is the most over rated over hyped lipstick on a pig bull**** out there. Fk Tuscaloosa n Athens, did u see the ROCK this year? It was beautiful, we are coming.

N i want Stevenson he is elite but if hes goes UGA UT or Bama. Tell him to strap up cuz hes getting the business just like PS2 n TC. He better talk to his "mentors" n they better be advising get ur mind right bruh, The U is gonna be a steamroller soon.

Striking out? God we have some awful posters on here. 247 just ranked our DB class in 2018 as #5 in the entire country.

Frierson, Ivey, Blades, Hall - that is your definition of striking out? We'll never get everyone but you seem to not realize who we did get

Just terrible

Considering who was on the board, who was their positional coach and recruiter, and where they live...yes....last year was striking out unequivocally and cannot even be debated. It's a backwards K. Struck out looking.

HOWEVER, it's still a good haul with potential to be great, IMO. By "striking out", he doesn't mean the 2018 DB class isn't any good (it absolutely is and we should all be excited to watch these kids for 3-4 years), just that it should have and could have been the best DB class in the history of the school, and it wasn't. That's striking out when you're 35 points on a neutral field behind in the march to being one of the best 5ish programs in the country. We're not close. Can't continue to let as close as you can get to a sure thing leave your backyard time and time again and expect to join that group.

Struck out looking is an unfair characterization. Reasonable people can disagree on whether DB recruiting was successful or a failure last cycle. But there is no room to argue this staff stood up to $ec and fought recruiting battles for their top targets. The staff took their swings.

Let us not pretend they didn't go hard after Judas and Campbell, and pulled Hall and Frierson as Baga and ubag were circling.

I believe that is just poorly used verbiage. I don't believe enough time has passed for them to be written off. I have seen photos of blades and physically he is ready to contribute.
This. I've read the mods here use that same verbiage before in a similar situation.

I’ll bite...which CB currently committed do you not see in this class come signing day? @Stefan Adams
I don't think he has anyone specific in mind, just that he feels it's likely we cool on one of these guys and they end up elsewhere (we stop calling or communicate less, they stop feeling the love, start putting out feelers, etc).

Not a fan of this thread. WADR to Stefan, but this thread should have focused on Couch. A separated thread (The Work or whatever ) should have been an update on the rest of the prospects. Your Stevenson news high jacked everything.

"Striking out" and having a good (possibly excellent) DB class aren't mutually exclusive. I would argue we did both those things last year with the'18 DB class.

**** but this same argument continues to play out over and over on every Canes message board. I can't speak for the op, but most guys who talk about a recruiting failure at cb last year aren't talking about the guys we signed. We signed some great kids and most agree. But we signed 2 legacies and a 3 star kid who I believe was very underrated by the recruiting services and just didn't get a lot of outside attention. Then of course we offered Bethel late when we still had space. We can't count on that every year and we need to win on some of these elite local CB prospects we don't already have a connection to.

Lol at UGA leading for Stevenson. It's just hard to believe with all the connections he has on campus and him making an effort to come down on Saturday.

That's a very valid point. Not only was last year's DB class exceptionally loaded, but two of the top kids were legacies. That's not likely to happen any time soon. Either we (Rumph especially) learns to sell these kids or we just try to get the "under the radar" CBs (which are generally prevalent in So Florida).

Still got them and they could have easily went elsewhere, frierson could have easily went to Georgia. Remember coach coley coached his brother at fiu and he was close to their family. Doesn’t make it any less of a recruiting win period.

Hall is probably the only one of the four I would call a top guy. The rest were underrated by most outside this site.

My point from a perception perspective you can't get punked for all of the top db prospects like last year.

This doesn't happen to Ohio State Alabama LSU where they lose out on top prospects ( one of the prospects publicly humiliate us on social media) within a 50 mile radius.

The perception is that teams can come in and pick off top guys. That has to change if we want to be dominant.

In a normal situation, Georgia doesn't even waste time on Campbell considering all of the factors that were in our favor. They came in at the 10th hour.

Georgia the front runner for Tyrique Stevenson? What a facking joke! Let me say this....If we cant manage to keep Stevenson at home considering all the time he spends on campus then there is something very wrong and I don't want to hear about bags and SEC. No excuses! Stevenson is local and practically lives on campus. He is very close to the staff and has developed a bond with the team as he is treated and viewed as part of the family. It is inconceivable to me how we could possibly ***** this up.

Once again, I don't want to hear any excuses. Just get it done.

I just can't understand the infatuation with Georgia & South FL DBs. Yeah they made the playoff. All it took was an upperclassmen heavy team put together by the current head coach at Miami. Now these guys act like an 8 win season for uga wouldn't deter them. But anything less than 10 wins at Miami apparently means there is no future at the U. Go sit the bench in Athens Georgia or start/play early in Miami Florida? What am I missing here?
bags

I love how people on this site care so much about db's. Give me 4 gritty guys like Bandy or JaQuan. QB, OL, DL. The only positions that we should EVER worry about

Just because you don’t want to hear excuses doesn’t mean there isn’t a motive for these kids to leave. Nothing anyone on this staff or planet can do about that if Miami isn’t playing on the same level field (bags) as Georgia.

Man, he didn't want to hear excuses. He's done. It's devastating news obviously to lose Francis Sawyer this way but there's nothing we'll be able to do now. Crushing blow, on par or worse than losing Stevenson. Double whammy really. Let's hope it doesn't come to this.

People worry about Couch’s slight size, and that’s a valid concern with his slim build. But his length is off the charts, which is a quality that Manny Diaz is on record saying he believes is more important than size at corner.

If our CBs were weak in any department last year, it was shedding blocks. For a few games in a row in the middle of the season, opposing offenses were able to get to the edge on us seemingly at will.

I suppose if he plays solely nickel it isn't as big of an issue. But personally, I'm not recruiting a 150 lb'er at any position. I'd tell him to add the weight and if he does then the offer would be there, rather than take the commit at this point.

And despite what Manny may have said regarding length, his offers tell a different story. He likes bigger corners.

With that being said if the kid elects to go elsewhere is that the staffs' fault?

Exactly. As Francis points out, the staff has done everything in their power to get him. If he goes to UGA then what else can this staff do? He isn't going to UGA because he feels more comfortable with their staff or locker room. We already know what differentiates Miami and UGA in this scenario.
