Me and the boys talking defensive line, Coach D'Onofrio and North Carolina.

The intro got cut off, but basically I rant a bit and say that if you look throughout history, there have been national champions with mediocre coaches (Coker, Chizik) or average QBs (Barker, Mauck, McElroy). Nobody wins without great defensive linemen.

Unless you have a pretty loose definition of great I certainly wouldn't classify Alabama's defensive line last year as great.

You don't have the #1 rush defense in the country without a stud defensive line.

I also consider Courtney Upshaw (who played the hybrid JACK position) to be a defensive lineman in that scheme. He was an All-American. Jesse Williams is also a freak who will play on Sundays.

Jesse Chapman (injured by season's end), Jesse Williams, Courtney Upshaw, Damion Square...also had solid players like Quinton Dial, Ed Stinson...

Those are good players. Hardly great though. Chapman was a 5th round pick. Not at a level of an LSU, FSU or South Carolina which are filled with 1st round picks. Square probably doesn't get drafted. Williams will be a 2nd to 3rd rounder.
