Miami’s Need: TBD

Miami, under Coach Golden, loves elite athletes with versatility and flexibility. Every year UM offers scholarships to upwards of a dozen “athletes.” They are primarily skill position players that can play multiple positions at the college level. The Canes sometimes recruit “athletes” for one specific position. Others are recruited as “athletes” to fill in the positions of need. The 2014 class will be no different.

Miami will offer scholarships to approximately 170-200 prospects every year. They have already offered 60+ scholarships for the 2014 Class. Our “CaneHunt” boards are our attempt to “guess” the Hurricanes’ recruiting priorities. These boards can and probably will change throughout the recruiting cycle. 3/3/13: Travis Rudolph gave his verbal commitment to Miami on 6/13/12. However, Travis attended Florida’s Junior Day recently and declared Florida on top now. Then he said he’s still committed to Miami. He has indicated that he will go to UF’s Friday Night Lights camp this summer. At this point, we should consider his commitment “soft” at best. It turned out to be a misunderstanding between our coaching staff and him as to the position Miami was recruiting him for. The situation has been smoothed by the coaches.

3/3/13: Myles Autry is a quality athlete from Norcross, Georgia. Myles is rated 93 and is ranked the #15 athlete in the nation, according to the 247Sports Composite.

Autry is being recruited by some schools as a running back, while others see him as a CB. Miami has left that issue open for now. Miles has an early top seven schools, that includes Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Miami, Ohio State, and Tennessee. Autry tore his ACL and meniscus at the end of his junior season. Many eyes will be watching him this fall to determine how the injury has affected his play.

3/3/13: Charles Nelson is a quality athlete from Seabreeze, Florida. Charles is rated 92 and is ranked the #17 athlete in the nation, according to the 247Sports Composite.

Charles plays with speed (10.58 100) at numerous positions, including WR, Safety, Returns and RB, although he’s not expected to play the latter at the next level. He attended a Miami camp last summer and stood out as a slot receiver. Charles tore his ACL toward the end of last season. Again, coaches will be watching this fall to see how far Nelson has progressed with his injury.

3/3/13: Jojo Robinson is a very fast athlete from South Florida (MNW). Jojo is rated 88 and is the #45 athlete in the nation, according to the 247Sports Composite.

Jojo gave his verbal commitment to FSU last July. However, that has not stopped schools from recruiting him, including the Canes. Robinson has indicated he likes the attention from those schools and will consider them. Miami is recruiting Robinson as a slot receiver. It’s a long way to NSD.

We can't just have guys commit and get ****ed off when they look around because they do have that right until NSD now we will see this summer what he does but i want Randolph

The 6-foot, 170-pound athlete told CaneInsider.com that he’s still committed to the Canes. However, he is keeping his options open moving forward and will be exploring other programs. The reason he gave for the buzz of him decommitting was based on the position that the coaches wanted him to play, defensive back. He was under the impression that he was being recruited as a receiver and there was inconsistencies in what he was being told. Coach Franklin tried to smooth things over and spoke with him for a while. Coach Coley assured Rudolph that they will recruit him as a wide receiver only from this point on. It was shaky for a bit, but things have seemed to settle down. As of now, he’s committed.

I agree with you. If you take a look at the WR board, you'll see that I have him listed there also. Travis' receiving skills are hard to overlook.

I regret the misunderstanding with our coaching staff, but I'm very happy he's not going to be a "diva."
