Bryce Fitzgerald Set for Big Year After Freshman Season Leading Miami in Interceptions
Miami Hurricanes defensive back Bryce Fitzgerald is poised for a big upcoming sophomore season, after leading the Hurricanes this past season in interceptions.
Though primarily a safety, Fitzgerald stepped up at nickelback following an injury to starter Keionte Scott, performing well in that role.
Fitzgerald made huge plays for the Hurricanes during the 2025-26 season, especially down the stretch after having a game-sealing end zone pick as Miami beat Texas A&M, saving the Hurricanes' season in the College Football Playoffs.
He also had two interceptions during the win over the Aggies.
Fitzgerald finished his freshman season with a team-high six interceptions, 10 tackles, and six pass deflections. Besides the interception stat, the stats might not impress you, but trust me, this kid makes plays.
Bryce still has three more years of eligibility remaining in college, so he still has three years to develop more under coach Hetherman and this defense.
Fitzgerald led all true freshmen in the NCAA with six interceptions.
It’ll be fun to watch him and new Hurricanes safety Omar Thornton form a strong duo in the secondary, should be a fun and exciting year.
