Miami and Jai Lucas added a late addition to the 2026 class as three-star forward Chris Birden chose the Hurricanes.

On Tuesday afternoon, three-star forward Chris Birden committed to the Miami Hurricanes over the likes of Texas State, Bryant, Northeastern, East Tennessee State, among other schools.

He has an On3 and 247Sports profile but is not rated; however, ESPN has him listed as the No. 55 power forward in the class of 2026. Birden holds offers from Elon, California Baptist, and Western Carolina, among many others.

After looking more into his recruitment, it was found that he also took a visit to Missouri back in 2023, where assistant coach Charlton Young was one of his main recruiters. Now, Young is led the charge to recruit him to Miami.

Birden is a 6-foot-8 hybrid four-man originally from New Orleans, Louisiana. He has a lengthy frame and is very active on both ends of the floor.

Here is what Birden had to say about his commitment to Miami, and his message to Hurricanes fans:

"When I took that visit it immediately felt like family, I felt like the coaching staff had my best interest in heart," Birden stated. "All I gotta say to the Canes [family] is, It’s All About The U."

A solid depth piece for the Hurricanes.

Intriguing option. Like his height and wingspan. Athletic enough to throw down dunks and has a decent shot. Put on a few pounds and could be a solid 3/4. Right now I would think he is 2/3.

Practice bodys are important. This is like taking the Laboy kid last year.

Enjoy a year of the best coaching you'll receive, nutrition, facilities, a few garbage minutes.

Then he will transfer out.

Maybe dude develops crazy and everybody wins.

I need to find some tape. Considering Jai doesn't want to bring in any HS kid to just sit, we will see how this plays out. I assume he thinks this kid can eat some minutes this season. It's almost confusing seeing all this height here. I love it.

I get that people keep saying practice body like Laboy, but those 2 kids are nothing alike. A 6’8/6’9 2/3 who can play above the rim is different than a 6’3 pg

Why do you assume Jai wont bring on developmental players to sit the bench?

I can assure you this kid wont play minutes outside of garbage time reward minutes, assuming our team health is not derailed.

But bodies are important. Practice, injuries, etc. Cant just have a 8 man squad.

We needed a body like this. I’m just disappointed that we weren’t more aggressive in HS recruiting to land a 2nd big dog.

I hope we’re able to fill out the roster with a few more competent bodies in portal or euros.

If he's a PWO then it's a steal given he had other D1 offers from decent mid-major schools
